OBEX Transfer

Can someone please tell me WHY Verizon restricts OBEX transfer via BT on their phones and Cingular DOESN'T??

Thanks

Because they can...

and Get It Now.

That response speaks volumes about you, as well as the company. Does anyone have a reasonable explanation?

What...you didn't understand the answer?

Get It Now is a revenue stream for VZW. If you could easily transfer song/ringtones/music from your friends phone-who got it from their friends phone and so on, no one is making money in that process.

I guess it speaks volumes about you.

No, I guess it speaks volumes about Cingular and them letting their customers do that.

You say - "Because they can"...which is CRAP.

In your opinion it's "crap". Apparently in VZW's opinion it is not. Besides, some of the newer equipment is allowing some OBEX...

Once again, "Because the can" is really what's going on. You many not like it and have a choice to use another carrier. VZW is a porofit making business, not a charity.

User purchased sounds/ringtones/games are understandable. Cingular locks those as well. And they should.

They make more profit because they charge more for things Cingular doesn't. đŸ˜ŗ

Verizon has eased up on OBEX on which phones? And dont you think its about time they did??

I've NEVER come over here to post anything deragotory, but it gets old that they come in our forum with nothing but opinionated flaming...so I decided to come in here with some FACTUAL flaming 😁 and they cant rebutt it with anything intelligent...all they can say is "Because we can" or "Verizon isnt a charity"...they got crappy phones and crappy policies yet they think they are the shiznit. Is it hard to see why SE doesn't make any phones for them, and you're lucky to find a Nokia in the house? It surely isn't coincedental. I've said enough and proven my point. When they start allowing OBEX and come up with something that can compete with my 3.2MP Cybershot w/AF phone then I will be impressed. Time to go back home to my Cingular forum. Cy...

Let them be man! We both know that there's only ONE thing they could never get to HAVE or to EXPERIENCE, and that is a Sony Ericsson Walkman phone (or in your case the K series) Oh man! How is that 3.2 Cyber Shot camera working for you? Full BT, Unlocked/debranded phone, I bet you can set songs in your playlist as ringtones (which is the only thing I wish I could do on my Cingular branded W810i) Don't let the haters piss you off in here. They just don't know what a real phone is. That's why they hate! Their Vz phones and their UI have a subliminal encoded message set up that makes them love everything about it... It's a lost cause. There's no way out for them. We lost them!

I really haven't tried to set full songs as ringtones. I make my own on my pc...download the full song off the net, cut my desired 30 seconds I want as my ringtone, and then BLUETOOTH (there's that OBEX feature I love with my carrier) over to my phone. I am not sure which pics you want, but if you will remind me, I will gladly send them. The Xenon flash on this phone is UNREAL. I didnt see any Verizon phones with 3.2MP Cybershot with Xenon flash, 3.2MP Carl Zeiss ala Nokia N73 or 5.0MP Carl Zeiss ala Nokia N95 anywhere that I've looked. I must have overlooked them, because surely their phones are as nice as what we can use with Cingular. đŸ¤Ŗ

I think Icy's and Anxio's post was about sony ericsson phones, more than hacking your carrier's phones. I mean, honestly, why go thru all that? My sony ericsson phone does all I want it to do... Even sometimes while I'm multitasking on it and I feel like the phone is getting somewhat confused, instead of just crashing or rebooting, my phone gives me options, as in go back or stop whatever I'm doing. No other phone I ever used did this. Sometimes I feel like my phone has a mind of its own... đŸ˜ŗ It's weird! It's like it's guessing what I'm trying to do! I love my phone!

Some carriers work better than others in certain areas. I'm with Verizon for 2 main reasons. Coverage and customer service, both of which are better than Cingular. I use about 100 minutes a month, and I could care less if my phone has the capability to record videos or play music as ringtones. Give me a phone that will make a phone call, and I'm happy. Verizon delivers. Cingular doesn't. That's all it boils down to. Until Cingular can get its act together and get coverage in populated areas (there is a state university in my town, why don't they cover here?), they will never appeal to someone like me.

I LMFAO @ you saying Cingular doesn't have coverage in populated areas. Take this message, read it, and apply it to what you're doing in these forums. The people here have Verizon for their own personal reasons. I don't care that Cingular has more customers. They don't in my area. I don't care about OBEX or any of the other things that a paperweight might give me. Kindly take your Cingular cheerleading elsewhere. Do you cheer about your gas company too? I'm just curious.

By the way, Cingular may have coverage in larger cities. That's fine. That's where most of their customer base is. I mentioned not having coverage in populated areas because it's a stupid business move on their part not to cover to...

Anything that forces your customers to do business with your main competition is a stupid business move no matter how you look at it. I personally port about 40 students at the beginning of every semester, both at university and the tech school in town. That's one employee out of the 8 Verizon stores we have in town. Multiply that over a five year span, and you're looking at a pretty good chunk of change that Cingular is literally giving to Verizon.

Icyhot,

Verizon locked the BT capability of their phones because of the fact that they wanted their customers to use the text, pix messages to send info out at their per charge fees or have a plan put on the account.

They have made changes to that. The LGVX9900 and the LGVX8600 are fully capable of OBEX. I believe that there are other that may be available as well but I don't carry them. The 9900 came out in October/November and the 8600 was soon after that.

I do not know if they will make all the phones full bluetooth capable with the new releases...

With the change in plans to include unlimited text to everyone, I am not sure...

And yes I do work for a Verizon Indirect Store.
