my beloved and venerable Audiovox CDM-9900 (rebranded toshiba 4050, also known as the greatest phone ever) started acting wierd the other day, buttons not working, inabiity to select certain menu items.

I actually had to remove the battery and reboot the thing for the first time in nearly 3 years.

it's been fine since, but the momentary panic induced by the failure caused me to look at the latest phones and wonder if any of them are anywhere near as good as my cdm-9900.

I got my wife the LG8600 recently and it's nice, but scratch prone, plus the small flat buttons are not so good for my fat fingers, oh, and the charger jack seems fragile and is a pain in the butt compared to the 9900.
