LG VX8700 (SHINE) help?

iamten7

I finally got my new VX8700. Does anyone have a suggestion as to where I can turn to move my old ringtones off my computer and on to the new phone? I had my own ringtones and pics on my old LG VX8000 and used the DATAPILOT file transfer system from Susteen to make my own ringtones and transfer files/ backup my phone. However Susteen seems to have no idea when they will have the updates and cable available to do that with the VX8700. I tried the DATAPILOT Bluetooth adapter and while it recognizes the phone it is unable to transfer data with the phone or vice versa

ok so far using the text message route with .WAV, .MP3, and .MIDI files has been unsucessful. Also don't waste your money on going the Media card route either. The VX8700 will not allow ringtones off the media card you can only put them into your My Music file. So the search continues.

Thanx Gunny but they don't support this phone yet either. I am getting the impression that the fine folks at VZW may want people to spend their $$ buying things from them alone.

It does not matter if they support your current phone, just select 'other' from the drop down list and you'll be g2g...let me know if you have any problems I use it all the time.

hey Gunny Thanx anyway I looked at the site again and I think I'll take a pass on them. I think I've learned enough over the years and through the internet that if it sounds to good to be true it probably is. That seems to be never more true than when you click on anything on the internet that says it's "FREE". Also I listned to the "FREE" ringtones and they are really poor quality. I say that because I ripped my own from my CD's and they played and sounded awsome when my phone rang. That's why I am looking to put them on to my new phone. I am just disappointed that LG bowed to VZW pressure and took that away from the endline consumer.

you could also try to use bitpim. go to bitpim.org, download the software. it probably won't have the 8700 on there yet because it's so new but you might be able to use the software off the 8600. if not just click other cdma phone. this should be your ticket it out. let me know if you have any questions

Bitpim doesn't work yet with the 8700 - we have to wait for the next revision (selecting the 8600 gets you connected, but nothing can be transferred to/from the phone... at least in my experience.)

Kerrigil thanx I just read your reply about an hour to late. As soon as I saw ibanezex718's idea I ran over to VZW and got the kit and cable I needed, another $24 tied up in this as yet fruitless endeavor. And so the search continues. Hopefully Bitpim will have it solved soon.

No worries - don't forget, you can return the cable kit to VZW within 30 days, if you so desire. I find it useless to have as long as you have a bluetooth connection to your computer.

Kerrigil yes I do have a Bluetooth connection but it is with the Bluetooth adapter that came with the DATAPILOT kit from Susteen and all it will do to this point is recognize that the phone is there and exists. I have contacted the tech people at Susteen/DATAPILOT and they are also trying to do the same thing there. They do not as of yet have support for this phone. However I think this will all come down to one conclusion, LG has agreed to the VZW Block on the phone and that has to be circumvented some how. Thanx again.

Ibanezex718 Hey I tried your suggestion but I get an Error saying that the access to the file/directory on this phone is blocked by the phone provider. I think it may take a little time before some developer gets around this VZW Block on the phone. I also am beginning to think that VZW may be going this route on all their new phones under the misguided belief that their customers want to shell out big $$$ to them to get what they want on a phone that ultimately is the owners personal property. I wonder how long it is before someone files a class action suit over this.

Gunny ooooo ok but I think I am still confused as to how this will help get around the VZW block on the ringtones. I mean even if I upload my ringtones to the site, I can't get them back onto my phone as ringtones there because of the VZW block on the phone file/directory. Atleast that seems to be the situation until someone develops and end around to the VZW Block. Am I wrong here?

you don't upload the ringtones to the site, you use the tool to send the ringtones to your phone. get it? you have a bunch of wallpaper/ ringtones saved to your computer right? and you want to send to your new phone correct? this upload tool will do just that, it sends them to your phone as a text msg, you open it save it, then it will allow the option to save it as ringtone etc.

I'm not quiting on this thread until you we achieve the desired results 😉

Gunny I'm not trying to be a downer here but on this phone there is no option to save anything. When you open a text message and click on the options button the following list appears;
1. Forward
2. Save as Quick Text
3. Lock
4. Add to Contacts
5. Message Info
When you click on 5 it merely tells you who the message is from, the time recieved, and priority. I think VZW caught on to this and they have blocked it. If you send anything to your phone as a txt message, like attaching a file to the txt message, it gets filtered out by VZW before it is recieved by this phone. I've now tried several different ways. I'm even pretty sure if you try reading it as an e-mail on the phone it won't be saved to the phone but rather to your e-mail provi...

Gunny I owe you an apology!!! You were so insistent that it would work that I figured I would give it a shot and report back to you. I fully expected it to fail. Well it worked. I was totally shocked. Not only did it work, but the menu options that you described also popped up where they were previously not showing. I don't understand how but hey I am not going to look a gift horse in the mouth. Thanx again for the tip.
