Renewel? Worry Free Guarentee???

I am doing my best to get off VZW with out the $175 ETF. And this is my last hope.

If I were to goto the store and say I want a new phone, which I will need to renew my contract to get (I'm around 11 months on 2 year) will the "worry free guarentee" apply.
If so I can get the new phone and cancel everything within the first 15 days. Does that make sense. I want out, and I'm willing to fork over money to activate an account with the plan to cancel it immediately, to then get a check covering costs.

Will this work? If not I'm going to have to pay the $175 and I will thats how mad I am with their service.

Thanks,
9311

Seriously verizon reps, hold off your loyalty and save me the 25 min drive to thier store, just tell me whats what...

no, worry free gaurantee will only allow you to revert to old hardware and old plan... you'll still have to pay the ETF...

Dare I ask why you're leaving?

Damnit....

and your sure about this.

Why am I leaving, well I'm a technology junkie. I need a new phone because my VX6000 is crapping out. So rather than buy the latest and greatest from verizon (in my opinion the V710) I will get one that actually has blue tooth as it is supposed to.
That and I hate that my nights start at 9 and my weekends at noon on Saturday.

Basically its all about the V710 the crippling of BT just doesn't rub me right. And this will be my own little protest to their business practices.

IMHO, stick it out through Christmas... I have a "damaged box" 6000 here, that I could probably cut you a deal on (phone is fine, box looks like an accordian on the corner)...

Now that US Cellular announced that they're coming out with the v710 in all it's uncrippled glory, I bet VZW will make some changes...

And I'm 100% positive about the ETF thing, I've seen it before... and beware, once you cancel, you're not a "new customer" for 6 months, so you may not be eligible for rebates/promos in some locations...

Stick it out till 2005 if possible... Good things may be on the way...

I have the v710 myself, and I love it, even if the BT is a bit crippled, it's still a great phone and a great camera.

yeah, thanks for the info, but its just their crippling of the feature that really bothers me. I would stick it out but that just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Maybe I'm too liberal and I want to go against the big corporation rather than watch them rule the industry.
Not that Verizon is the only one, I was happy but this just goes against everything I stand for.

Now I guess I'm off to find the lesser of the other evils.
At least I know I'm not getting Sprint since it doesnt work near my house.

Thanks for the info, and if you have and suggestions on who to switch to I would be glad to hear them.

Verizon did not cripple blue tooth as much as they made it a more secure technology. With bluetooth anyone could steal contact list from your phone with the data transfer capabilities the way they work today. VZW is looking out for the protection of their customers privacy. I know it would really piss me off if someone stole my contact info. Other carriers do not care about their customers privacy as is evident by the fact that every major carrier except VZW is going to get together and publish a cellular directory. Man am I glad I am not a customer that will be included in that.

The Jabra Freespeak requires you to wear and extra transmitter on your belt, does not allow you to use it in you bluetooth enabled car, does not allow you to use the bluetooth speaker phone or use it with your bluetooth laptop/pda.

Here is a short excerpt from article on bluetooth's security:

"Serious flaws discovered in Bluetooth technology used in mobile phones can let an attacker remotely download contact information from victims' address books, read their calendar appointments or peruse text messages on their phones to conduct corporate espionage.

An attacker could even plant phony text messages in a phone's memory, or turn the phone sitting in a victim's pocket or on a restauran...

As far as I know you can turn bluetooth off on the V710. And only turn it on when you want it. That way there is no getting onto the phone unwanted.

Other than the theft of the contact list, there is nothing malicious in "blue snarfing" you cannot steal account info, you cannot make calls on the persons phone and you cannot delete anything.

If you dont want someone "blue snarfing" your phone then turn off bluetooth, and all will be well.

You can send malicious text messages and read possibly private text messages, not to mention pant false text messages, you can turn the phone into a listening devise, and what if someone happened to have a number that for what ever reason cannot get out into the hands of Joe Schmoe. Sounds kinda dangerous to me. Especially if you are someone who has some sort of government security clearance.

No for a couple of reasons:

1.) you're not eligible to upgrade, so you wouldn't be able to purchase a phone.

2.) you'd revert to the original contract end date if you returned the equipment.

Your totally going about it the wrong way, there is no way to get out of paying your ETF 😁 I mean think about it how would opening up a new account offset your original account? I'm just wondering with you being so "technical" I thought you would know that... also I'm just curious is "bluetooth" that serious that you would leave a great "network" to go to any carrier for a phone?! a phone that you hardly will be able to use....

I have no idea what BEC and BNC is...

And I'm leaving Verizon because I dont want to be restricted so that they can make more money off of me.
If I want to send a pic to my friend who has the same phone and bluetooth.... I cant. But I can send it to them over Verizons network at a cost.

Is bluetooth that important to me... no. But its principle, my principles. I will not sit by while they do this to thier customers. Am I starting a revolution, certainly not, but I am getting myself away from their (what I consider) bad business practices.

In going from one plan to another I was hoping that I could open that 15 day window of opportunity (worry free guarentee) and then cancel the new plan (which would have been replaceing the old) C...
