Where is the best place to buy a phone at retail? corporate store, online, somewhere else? Is there any advantage to one over the other?

Thanks

check around, you might be surprised in the difference of prices. I would probably suggest online, but call custopmer service I have seen them give people 25% off. I would also check like BEstBuy and some stores like that.

Watch those 25% off deals. Most of the time, our CSR's fail to tell you that will result in a 2 yr contract renewal.

🤨 Only most of the time? I've yet to see anyone get the 25% off retail without a 2 yr renewal

renewals are overrated anyway...who cares, it only cost $175 to get out of your contract...it's not life or death.

And if you really need to get out, just sell your current phone to offset the costs of your etf

one place not to buy would be an indirect location . . . our prices here fluctuate depending on who you talk to. and they're usually a tad to ALOT more expensive than the actual retail.

Agreed, I'd go direct, online usually has strings attached (contract) and why wait for customer care to mail you one at retail? If you're eligible for an upgrade, or exception (they won't offer sometimes you have to ask) take it. The early termination starts at $175 and drops $5/month so if you do happen to cancel your contract it's probably still a bargain overall.

Went to the first corporate store, after checking my account the guy told me that he wold have to activate the phone and charge me $20.00. couldn't let the phone leave the tore without being activated, told him no thanks.

Went to the second corporate store, this guy took a look at my account tells me that since I'm a Merits customer I get the phone activated and phone book copied for free. I bought a VX-8600, very happy.

Does it make any difference if I write to the corporate heads and tell my story? will the guy that helped me get a gold star in his employment record?

haha thats funny. there are some reps you go to that may or may not know all the rules. thats why it's good to go around and check it out.
and about the letter, it probably really won't even make to anyone's desk to be read. what you could do now though is go take the survey that we offer, they are now paying close attention to that.

I disagree with the suggestion that writing won't do anything...it is always worth the time to write a quick note to point out the good performance of the person.

When writing to any business, remember to provide the whole name, if you have it, and the time/specific location of the good experience.

I do think people get rewarded for good service when they provide it.

My two pennies.

yeah but when you're dealing with a multi-billion dollar company who has over 60million customers to serve, chances are it won't get read, but thats just my two pennies too.

Straight from the survey website.

In order to participate in the survey you must have recently received a written survey, postcard or survey email from Verizon Wireless.

So your best bet is to call the store where you received good customer service and let the manager know. Too often good customer service goes unrecognized. While on the other hand bad customer service is told to hundreds thanks to the internet.

No. Don't call. Put it in writing. Good or bad experiences. Writings get noticed. Calls get forgotten

i work in the tech department in a verizon store, i dont work for verizon i work for a contracting company (solectron) and that online survey shows lots of recognition. the other day my store manager came over and said that a customer gave us a 100% because we took a customer who has had alot of problems with a treo 700p and put him into the pn 820, he said he really liked the phone and wanted to try it so i talked to my manager and made it happen, so after he filled out the survey we got lots of praise for it....so for anyone who has had good experience in a verizon store either buying a phone, dealing with customer service, or even going to the tech department to get their phone replaced, the survey really helps us out. and gives us fee...
