I have held the type-s!

Well at least the demo unit and I have to say the type-V feels better. The size for the most part was the same and weight too but the screen is smaller, and the hinge seems weaker too. They confirmed that it will be a .3 megapixel (not 1.3 or 2.0). The buttons don't feel as solid as the V also. All in all, I was disappointed, I was waiting for the bluetooth but we don't have the law for hands free yet and by the time it is my NE2 will be available again so I think I'm going to wait. Now with that said I just got a new job where I don't need as tough of a phone so I think I'm going to go with the new maxx because it fits in the pocket better.

Oh, and he said that it will go for $299 straight up, or with my NE2 it would still cost me $100.

I don't understand all of the conflicting reports of the features on this phone. There is a post on HoFo by a subject who just bought the phone today and he's reporting that the phone has a 2.0mp camera. Another reported that an Ohio Verizon store told him that it will have essentially the same features as the 'V.' I talked to UT Star and they reported a 0.3 camera, but then I talked to Verizon Corporate and they advised a 1.3 camera. Is the world this incompetent, or don't the Verizon execs have anything more important to do? You would think that all of this misinformation would prompt them to release the features so that the phone does not get a bad rap before it's even released and repel a lot of potential buyers.....unless the phone...

When I went in to the store this morning I asked if he had the phone he said that he could order one for me. Then I asked again and he said that he had the dummy phone, so he got it for me. And as I hold both phones in my hands, well, you can read about it in my first post. Anyway, I asked him about the features and he basically said that the features were the same as the V. So I started telling him what I was hearing from this wonderful site and so we went into his office (this was the manager of the store I was dealing with) and he popped it up on his internal website and he had to go to several places because he couldn't find one that gave him the specs on megapixels. He finally went I think to the infomanager? and saw to his amazeme...

I think that I forgot to mention on my other post that I have also received conflicting reports from allegedly credible sources. I had talked with the distributor, UT Starcom, who did advise a 0.3 cam, but then spoke with a CSR rep at Verizon corporate who said it was a 1.3 cam. Aggravating! I wish there were other Phonescoopers out there who would do some research themselves in their part of the country to see what they could find out.

I asked the manager and he said that it's the same phone just without the displays. Besides you'll know what I mean once you see it. 😡

I have yet held a dummy phone that feels the same as the real phone, the real phone always feels better for some reason.

I know what you mean though, I even was getting excited and going to get it, but with the reports I have seen thus far, I am getting in the mode that I dont want it anymore. As far as I am concerned, if they would have taken the type v changed nothing and just added bluetooth and a micro sd card slot, that is all the changes they had to make.

Yeah you can't compare build quality on a dummy model. It is almost nothing like the real one.

Just by the looks you can tell that it's built like any other phone and not like the tough V. As the hinge on the V looked stronger. The arrow buttons at the top of the key pad on the V seems to be a metal wheel as the S is plastic. I would imagine that the body would be the same phone but the insides would be gutted out on a demo unit. Again, you will see when you pick one up. I am no expert, the last phone I had was a v60 so all the vcast, evdo, camera, and color screen for that matter is all new to me. I just wanted to give you some info that I found out when I was there and a picture of what I thought about the phone.

I went to the beach and did some surf fishing today, It was outside in the heat of the day for 5 hours (90 degree heat), it was completely submerged in saltwater for 20 minutes at a time, took it home and rinsed it off, and still works like a champ, the Gzone type V is the shizzle1 🤣

I live in NE Ohio and stopped into my local Verizon store today to inquire (again) about the Type S. They had no idea what I was talking about, but after checking with someone who actually keeps up with upcoming products was able to tell me that they do not know when they will be getting the phone. They were able to confirm that it will not be May 1. He could not even find it in their computer, what he called their, "M&P" whatever that is.

The CSR advised that some of their phones are released regionally and that it will eventually come to all of the stores sometime during the quarter. So, if your store does not have it tomorrow, then it might not be there until June 1 or later.

you can buy it off ebay but i'm not sure why anyone would choose it over the Type-V...smaller screen, no bumper, inferior camera, reports of spotty voice clarity.

maybe the third gen will be better, but this is a downgrade!

Where have you read that it has spotty voice clarity? The only reason that I was considering the 'S' was because of the bluetooth option which the Type V should have in the first place.....leaning back towards the Maxx again.....ugh!!!!
