LG VX8600 - different colors?

ok, i first posted this in the LG forum, but there hasn't been any activity since so i figured this forum would be my next best bet.

anybody know if the 8600 will ever be offered in different colors? it seems after this long it's likely that it won't. would sure help with the finger print issues (although it's really not that big of a concern with me). i'm looking to purchase one very soon and wouldn't mind a selection other than black. no biggie though.

Only Alltel's 8600 has diffrent colors. Verizon only carries it in black.

but they carry 5 or so different colors of the previous Chocolate? how frustrating considering most reviewers are always criticizing the exterior finish for collecting finger prints too easily. and we all know black is probaby the most notorious for this. wonder why Verizon is so unmoved about color variety for a phone that is supposed to have "flash" appeal. hmmm....oh well. nothing i can really do about it.

thanks for your help.

The Black 8600 has been out forever... if other color were going to be available on VZW, they would have been out by now. Maybe Someone on HoFo shows you how to put the AX8600 on a VZW network. Besides the Chocolate was an advertising blitz, they didn't push the 8600

"The Black 8600 has been out forever... if other color were going to be available on VZW, they would have been out by now."

exactly. actually, i suggested the same thing in the OP. figured i'd go ahead and ask just in case though. couldn't hurt 😉

however, considering the phone itself gets better reviews than most of what Verizon has to offer, i wonder why they never expanded the color offerings like Alltel. probably because i'm going to be buying it, lol.

The carrier/manufacturer relationship is a little strange, chances are VZW would have to pay LG to get another color available. Sometimes carriers have to buy the rights to specific colors and they other carriers cant have the same phone in that color, hence why "pink" RAZRs arent the same color between carriers, each carrier got their own coloring of it.

At this point it isnt likely there will be another color of it available as it will most likely be discontinued if it hasnt already been to make room for new LGs. The LG8700 replaces it for form factor and function, so there is little reason to carry both.
Price changes should be happening in about a week, so look for the price to drop on it ;)

thanks for the info. maybe i'll just wait it out a little longer (however, my phone keeps getting worse so not TOO long) and look for a price drop rather than hassle with calling Verizon to have them credit my account.

i would opt for the VX8700, but there's no external music controls so that's a no go. too bad, since i hear it actually has a REAL speakerphone. i wonder why they left out what seems to be becoming a common feature in multemedia phones. then again, it's pretty telling since the external screen isn't designed for that type of thing either.

That, and it's expensive outright.

I would assume that Verizon got its hands on the 8600, and Alltel got its hands on the different colors. Maybe Verizon had it licensed in black, then Alltel licensed it in...everything else. Hard to say, but that's my thoughts on the subject.

You're probably right. It's too bad though from a business perspective. Why not offer different colors as much as possible, its been proven time and time again to be effective (razor, chocolate etc). I mean come on it can't be the liscensing money VZW's worried about 😕 even the haters know there's plenty of that to go around. But who knows, I'm sure the execs had some decent reasoning for it.
