I don't know if this is just my handset, the online sites I tried to sign on with (for ringtones), or if it's VZW's fault. But I've generated more text messages than I've actually sent or received. According to my account online with VZW it went from sent: O, received: 3 to Sent: 13, received: 15. How the hell did that happen? I never even received those messages to my phone nor did I send them! I took off my 2.99 text messaging package because I don't use it that often. But now I'm going to have to pay for the usage that I didn't even use. I called CS last night and was told that it could be the handset's problem, or that they wrongfully charged my account. So I took in my cell today and they looked it up and it shows that the messages wer...

Same thing happened to me...I think it was from the Mobile IM program. Everything that you do with it is charged as a text message. I have the CDM 9900 and I want to delete it, but I am having the same problem as others. There is apparently no way to get rid of it. In other forums it said a software update is on the way...Lets hope!
...
Ohhhh! 😢 I didn't even think of that. So just logging in and out counts as a text message? If so, that explains it. Because I haven't even sent messages thru it yet..cos..lol...everytime I log in there's no one on it. But if that's the case, that explains where those messages came from. Too bad! I hope they fix it soon.

You MUST be sure you log out of the application when you are finished. If you simply hit end or close your phone then you will still be logged in to the application and probably sending and receiving text messages the whole time. I have friends who's Yahoo Messenger always show them as Mobile. I don't think they've logged out of the application properly and it keeps them logged in. This is a feature of the program that is supposed to allow you to still get messages even when the app isn't up. It would come as a text message.

Yes, I've always logged out and then exited the program. But the thing is, I never received any instant messages or sent any because no one else was online in my friends list. The messages never even appeared in my inbox/outbox. So how did those messages magically appear on my account? And since they show as coming from my number there's nothing I can do to prove otherwise because it doesn't say its destination 😢

Correct me if Im wrong, but I believe that they charge your phone for each buddy on your list to see if they are online. For example, you have 30 buddies on your mobile buddy list. They charge you for 30 IM's when you sign on. I may be wrong but that is the only way I can...

Yeah you are defiantely wrong...They are charging you for logging in and out like you mentioned before...When you log in/out it has to send a message to the AOL server which is a text message... 😳
...
Also when you log in after you send the message to log in then it sends a message back with your buddy list on it. Isn't that correct?
...
We are talking about the Get It Now instant messenger, not the text version... 😳

I just called to ask if they would turn off my data and turn it on again...and the rep told me he'd have the guy that did my ticket give me a call back to see if that was a viable option. I hope it is 🙂
Thanks again for the advice.

no problem bleu. hope it works out for you. like i said before, i'm not really positive, but they did it for a customer of mine about a week or so ago (similar isue) and it fixed it. Good Luck!
...
Well I tried. Since I had a ticket number with them from making the call yesterday I got right thru today, the technician tried it and said it wouldn't work. So the I had no choice but to either pay the 2.99 to cover for the extra messages, or block txt msging completely. So I chose the latter and will have them turn it back on after the software problem is fixed. Thanks for the help though, at least it helped someone else 🙂

also bleu, you may want to call tech support again and ask to talk to a supervisor. I say that just because some people at tech suppert dont know EVERYTHING, a lot of the supervisors are bright. An example is a customer of mine that was having some txt problems a couple of weeks ago. I called once, they said "nope, everyhting looks fine." I called a second time (got someone else) and they also said "everything looks fine". Still not buying it, I called a THIRD time. I just knew there had to be something wrong in the system. Sure enough, the third guy found something and fixed it in a matter of thirty seconds. Now, I'm not talking trash about any of our tech support guys and girls, but sometimes you just gotta keep on their asses and try to f...

Thanks vzw22, I will definitely look into this when I get the time. Right now I'm in the middle of classes and getting term papers done for them 😳 ...arggh...so stressful sometimes. But when I get the chance I will. I think I've spent more than enough time with them this week, in their store and on the phone, for a lifetime...lol...

yeah, it can be time consuming. Good Luck bud!!!!

1st of all mobile im no longer uses txt msgs. 2nd, The #data reader is not necesairly real time, there can be a considerable time lapse between those 2 txts you received.
If your suggesting that your esn has been cloned then think again; usually if your phone is cloned total usage would be a lot higher than a bakers dozen of txt msgs.
The best indicator is what will show up on the bill, I apologize that you might pay an extra $2 this coming month.

what does mobile im use if not text messaging like verizon site says it does.
...
It does use text messaging...I dont know what schnozejt was talking about...Each sent and received IM counts as a text message... 😳
...
Yes, and that's the IM I was talking about. The one from Get It Now. And it does use txt messaging. But when I called to ask CS how many text messages it counts to log in and out, he told me it only uses air time and isn't used as a txt message. I'd understand if I was sending IM's thru the server (i.e. yahoo, msn, aol) to a friend on my list, but I haven't done that yet, nor have I received anything from anyone on my list either. The original acceptance page tells you that much, but it doesn't say anything about signing on and off. I'm just mad cos my txt message count keeps going up and up every single day and when I checked the time stamps for my last sent message, I never even sent such a message at the time. To date, I've sent ONE txt ...

Quick suggestion: try calling tech support and see if they can reset your data features. Sometimes when weird stuff like this happens, tech support can kick off all the data features, then turn them back on and somehow, sometimes, it fixes the problem. Not a sure thing, but worth a shot.

I was only saying that because I found that the program does not log you out correctly sometimes, and when I logged onto my computer's IM program, it told me I was still logged on with my mobile phone. I signed in on Mobile IM again and signed out, and then I was ok.

Mobile IM certainly does use text messages. You are billed for each IM sent and received, including signing on and off.

Exactly what I thought. I AM being billed for text messages. And just having got off the phone with CS proved this to be true as well. Verizon knows about this problem and are taking steps to update the software and the ability to delete this app. I have no idea what you mean by cloning esn...never heard of it. All I know is that I was being charged for a lot of text messages I didn't send or receive. And this is a direct result of having IM installed. So I took my cell back to the store in hopes that they could fix the problem. All they did was run a DOA on my cell and deleted all of my media,...

The old mobile im approach DID use txt msgs. Now im can be done either via Get It Now or Mobile Web. If you are using short code to sign on and off and send msgs to your buddies, then yes you are using txt msgs; but like I said that is the old way of iming

Looks like the GIN IM also uses txt msgs--as per vzw.com.
