"Cingular's arch-nemesis Verizon is claiming to have an iPhone-killer in the wings. According to Denny Strigl, Verizon CEO, "We do have a very good response in the mill. You'll see that from us in the late summer." It's war, people, make no mistake about it.
"

Any of you VDUB's know anything about this new phone...?

why do people still cry about that, none of my last four phones have had the red bars...All of the newer lg's have cusotmizable menus(no not just the flash ui) and unlocked bluetooth profiles.

And to use this crappy argument in refrence to the iphone is a joke.. The iphone is going to be one restricted phone..Apple video, itunes, service through apple store, no removable battery, no expandable memory, 2nd gen data speeds... Tghis thing will be restricted, you will be charged full price for it even with a contract, you have to get it serviced at a apple store, if you want a battery you have to go to apple store, and your data is going to be restricted to apple crap, all for a ton of $$$$$

Place your bets on the manufacture that VZW is working with to make the iphone killer?

Any thoughts on what it will be? or is it an already announced phone?

I question the validity of this article. it quotes Denny Strigl as being Verizon CEO. he is not Verizon's CEO and he is no longer Verizon Wireless CEO so thats wrong.

The quote might have been when Denny was VZW CEO or maybe they got confused since he is Verizon's President/COO now.

The LG rep came to my store the other day and claimed to not know anything, but we got to talking about the LG Prada. And he said it's not impossible they would make a CDMA version of it. If I had to put money on a device I'd put it on the Prada.

Doesn't matter anyways though, because if anyone really wants a Prada on AT&T we can just throw the old SIM in the GSM version and have it too.

There is a CDMA version out over in Korea and it has a Mobile TV tuner in it. The GSM version is tri-band GSM 900/1800/1900 with EDGE data. Like the GSM Chocolate, if you bring it to the US... you will can only use the 1900 band only which will not give your the greatest service

That is true, but using the korean CDMA Prada on Verizon would be a very painful process. With AT&T, just pop that card in there and you are good to go.

I don't think either the Prada OR the iPhone should be all purpose phones to begin with. I wouldn't want to go out with a 500-1000 dollar phone in my pocket. You should always have a regular "phone phone" for going out or whatever.

Very true. A lot of peeps seem to forget that overseas GSM is not the same thing as US GSM in a lot of cases, and just assume compatibility that's not really there. Caught this post on another forum, that kinda sums up the GSM situation, and a little of the UMTS situation:

GSM Freqs:

North America (lots of GSM/EDGE as well)
Cingular 850/1900
T-Mobile 2100 (note, different from world 2100)/1700
Rogers 850/

Plus Verizon has been very quick to bring LG's new lines to the US. The Chocolate Series 8500/8600 and the Shine Flip 8700 didn't have years of delay before it hit US shores. It doesn't take much for LG's R&D to take a popular GSM handset and turn it into a CDMA handset for Verizon

Congradulations on being a complete tool. This phone is a windows based prada variant. Sorry for not posting a model number but is a windows device made by lg based off the prada design 🙄 Multple sites have been speaking about the prada phone or a variant of it for verizon to compete with the iphone. so no need need to be an ass. AS far a comparison any device coming from Verizon will serviced by the carrier, feature removable battery and memory, offer evdo instead of edge (what a joke), and they wil...

yeah its a really nice phone..but i dont think it will be an iphone killer...the lg prada KE850 is just a fancy phone not really much of a smartphone...now the LG KS20 thats a great phone but i doubt it wills ee play in the US market becides its also GSM...along with the samsung f-700 ultra smartphone...all gsm..i dont really see any hot CDMA iphone killers on the horizon... maybe when sprint's wimax rolls out end year...we'll see some hitek wimax phones.

The LG KS20 is rumoured to be based on Windows Mobile 6.0, and comes with the following specs:

Weight: 99 g
Memory: 128 MB ROM

I don't think anything is going to be an 'iPhone killer', at least not for a very long time.

But its possible that when the Verizon exec was talking about a 'response', he wasn't talking about a SINGLE phone, but rather SEVERAL new phones, covering everything from the midrange to the high-end, and pushing new Verizon high-end features, like Media Flo TV. And this might be one of them, though it's more a midrange phone:
