False Text Messaging Charges
Has anyone been charged of text messages that they never sent? I looked at my bill this past weekend and found out that I was charged for over 100 text messages that I did not send. There are also text messages that were supposedly "sent" since my last billing cycle that I don't know about. I called customer service and explained the situation but they said that text messages can only be sent through the handset. So I made them investigate the situation and put a block on all text messages. They tell me to check to see if we recognize the number that the text messages are being sent to, but did not recognize it. This was Saturday night and when I checked my account this morning, 22 more text messages have been sent since then. So I guess the...

So I was on the phone with Customer Service Tech support for almost 2 hours trying to figure out this problem. But they eventually figured out what the problem was. Well, the phone that supposedly sent the erroneous text messages had a different mobile display number (MDN) and mobile identification number (MIN). I heard this happens when you port your phone number over from a different carrier. The MDN number was mine, but the MIN number was a totally different number and happened to be another user. So for some reason, when this person with my MIN number goes out of the service area, it charged my account for the text messages that person sent. Kinda confusing, huh?!
Well, they promised to credit my account and are currently trying to f...

I hope whoever you talked to that told you this you had them "note" the account, I can't recall how many times I have spoke to reps about things like this that the info simply "disapears" and the "answer" that was told in a previous conversation is compltely gone. Just make sure they notate your account.

Yep, I can confirm this. It's calld an MDN/MIN collision. usually, it effects PIX messaging, but it can effect other stuff on occasion too and cause problems like this. The messaging "server" has a record of your your MIN being both an MDN and MIN combination, which does not really exist on the network. It can't. However, someone with your MIN as their own MDN will send and receive messages off network. The other network reports us usage with that MDN... which our server thinks is you... but it's not. It's relatively easy to fix, but, that network has up to 90 days to report usage to us... so it's possible a few more messages could get reported as they filter in from the other carrier. Typically, your MDN and MIN are the same, unless you por...

Yeah, I was put on hold so many times because I just kept getting transfered until I found someone who caught the problem. They even had to get a superviser to look at my account, but they all eventually figured out what the problem was. I made sure to get the direct line and extension of the person who fixed it. But all the other customer service reps thought I was stupid and lying about the charges.
