Buying used i730 - is ESN good?

herbf

I want to check out the i730, I haven't found any stores near me that still has them in stock, but I found a person selling one in great condition.

He says he bought the phone new 18 mos ago, but had to switch carriers w/ a new employer and needed a GSM phone that worked overseas.

How can I tell him to find out the ESN number, so I can check it being good w/ Verison. Once I have the ESN, what do I do, just call Verizon 611 from my curent phone and ask them to check the ESN?

I'm not understanding your post. I'm buying a used phone, I can't get insurance on a used phone, only new phones within 15 days of purchase from an authorized seller.

If I'm misunderstanding you, please explain. Thx

oh its simple..to the carrier the phone is new... but you have to have insurance on your current phone..the insurance will just be transfered to your new phone...now if you hae no insurrance now..and buy a used phone then u'll be sol..but if you have insurance now...you'll have it no matter what phone you place on you account.

phone has to have made a call, receivedd a call and been on account for 30 days if not original phone to make a claim on that phone. Plus we are talking asurian here so the used one will be in better shape then the refurb they will send to replace it

oh they will let you make a claim in that case, but on the model on your account previously is my understanding...and yes that is fraud, to put a phone on your account just to make an insurance claim is fraud. These policies also differ depending on he insurance you have, I believe the 5.99 tec insurance is a little less restrictive, but none of this matters because Asurian insurance is crap...You pay 4.99 for 2 years= 120, pay $50 to make a claim, they don't even give you a battery, and you get some generic refurb repalcement..

That really is a pretty terrible answer. Why would you want to fraud for a phone? For that matter, how nice is to tell someone else to do it? Not very.

You may want to rethink how you approach stuff, like, you know...life.

Consumer man? My Spidey sense tells me that was supposed to be a dig. Suffice it to say that I am not recoiling with pained ego.

Not relevant anyway and whether I'm a consumer or 'in the biz' isn't at all important. I was making a comment on your lack of ethics. You cost honest consumers money with fraud. It's worth pointing out that you advocate screwing the rest of us.

....and:
"if you dont like it...dont read it...how about that..?hmmmmmmm>>???"

That's really the best you could do?

Keovani, I find your suggestion that he commit fraud to be very poor taste. That might be something that is ok to do over at the Sprint area but its not something that I would tolerate. I have a little morality and something called Integrity.

None of this answers my oringal question which was.

1 - how does the current owner find out the ESN on the i730 to tell it to me? He doesn't even know what an ESN is, so I need to tell him how to dig it out of the phone.

2 - how to I get Verizon to check it and make sure it's clean (not reported lost or stolen) and make sure I can use it w/ no problems.

1. Underneath the battery...

2. Call and ask Care.

Those other responses, as you know, were non-responses.

agreed.

look for ESN, DEC or HEX.... Most Samsungs have 3 bar codes with #'s. Check the one that in between the 1st and 2nd bar code then.

Tech Support has to check 2 list, Stolen and Non-pay (meaning the ESN cannot be released because the owner didn't pay his bill)

Also they can make sure that it is not currently active on someone's acct.
