I am trying to decide on which phone to get. My local place has the audiovox 9900, it looks nice and the reviews on this site are pretty good.
The other phone I am considering is the lg6100, not much info on it yet though.
I want a tri mode, dont really need the camera, but thought I might like that feature. First and foremost it needs to work well.
I have a lgvx4400 that I am upgrading from. I have been pretty happy with it overall.
Any input is greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Paul

I have the audiovox 9900 and it's great see I got it when it was 49.99 for customer's and cheaper for employee's so that's why I didnt even consider the 6100 but The audivox is a great phone picture quality tri-mode color etc...
...
also might I add there will be another Motorola phone coming out (no no more blue-tooth )that's a camera phone also haven't heard any reviews on it yet maybe someone reading the post has information on it....
...
DO YOU KNOW WHAT MODEL MOTOROLA WILL BE COMING OUT,AND WHEN.
I WOULD LIKE A MOTOROLA PHONE
...
This must be the quandry of the week, because those are the two phones I am trying to decide between, too! 😕
...
lol, well if it matters the audivox has video and camera and the lg just has camera....
...
Thanks for the info so far. My only concern on the audiovox is that I heard vw is not going to be selling them anymore and I wonder if there is going to be support down the line.
The camera is more of a gimic to me, I am sure I will like it but it is not my biggest concern.
...
The only reason why the audiovox 9900 is on closeout is because of that sale I talked about earlier there just simply isnt that much more left in inventory and audiovox isnt going to make anymore for us not that anything was wrong with it, it just was VERY popular 😁
...
Thanks again for the info. It would cost me about $80 for that phone. Sounds like it is worth it.
On another note, are there any phones that verizon sells that you can take pictures and put them on the computer without emailing them?
Thanks for the help
Paul
...
you should be able to get a usb connector cable and use that to transfer pictures to the computer let me double check though...
...
as far as I know you cant transfer pix without sending a pix message...
BTW...you cant go wrong with a 9900.

This thread is an excellent illustration of one of the main complaints against vzw, namely, their selection of phones is pitiful. What does it tell us that the prevailing choice comes down to just 2 phones with the arguably more desireable of the 2 being sold out?
...
That's not all that true. If you're looking for a good flip phone you have the LG 4500, 4600, 6100, 7000... the Samsung A670 & 9900. That is selection of several good phones.

No it's not. Just look at cingular or sprints phones. They blow VZW's selection out of the water.
VZW doesn't even offer a meg-pix phone anymore. They pulled the v710 because it had so many problems. The other providers have multiple mega-pix phones to choose from. I'm sorry, but VZW is way behind in this category.
Love the service, hate the phone selection!!

I agree!
Why does Verizon have the worst line-up of phones?! Don't get me wrong, I love the service, but the phone selection is a joke. I compare the selection of the other providers and find that Verizon's selection of phones is the worst by far.
For example: Other providers have multiple selections of mega-pix phones while Verizon HAD only one (the VZW website doesn't even offer the Moto v710 anymore due to the problems)....

Just a note here:
You won't see the LG VX800 till EV-DO is across a greater part of the VZW market since that phone makes use of that system instead of 1XRTT.
...
Actually CP1973, the Moto V710 is not on the website because it is out of stock currently due to a single shipment of the phones being sent from the manufacturer not to specification. The phone is scheduled to be coming back into stock this week and should be available on the website once that occurs.
...
I think you have your information a little mixed up. The only problem with the V710 was the tilted camera in some of them. This was a manufacturer thing... not something that Verizon could spot in testing. Chances are the ones that Verizon had in testing were fine.
...
The worst??? Have you seen Alltel's selection??? But anyways...one of the main problems at least from how I feel is that there are models of phones that are just replacing other so tghere really isn't that large of a selection...I don't like how they are doing that...
...
Altell is also not a national company

Phone selection is an overrated subject. What will you likely use the phone for? A phone call. Do most of our customers use their phone for its full potential? No. But its impressive to tell your bud what the phone CAN do, just dont ask how to make it work. Do they need 4x4 SUVs with brush guards and offroad lights to drive to the daycare? Its amazing what will make a grown adult stomp his/her feet and scream like a baby..only because the phone they have know isnt the shiniest phone anymore. It all comes down to this..."My god, what will the neighbors think!!! 😲 🤣

Jeff, you seem to miss the point. All they other providers offer service and a good phone selection. Why not VZW?

I like my analogy.
Case in point: today had to walk an elderly lady thru the steps how to send a text message. Turns out she doesnt know anyone else who has a cell phone.
haha
...
I think the phone selection is a dumb topic. The majority of customers come in to the store just wanting a phone they can make a call on. Most say they aren't interested in a camera phone or anything like that. They just want something cheap that works.
...
I agree like I said people are sounding like they want toys instead of phones.........
...
I WANT A TOY. GIVE ME A PHONE THAT WILL WASH MY DISHES, TURN MY TV ON AND WALK MY DOG...my phone will accually turn my tv on too with the IR port it's pretty cool...DID I MENTION I WANT TO BE ABLE TO SHOOT MY OWN HOLYWOOD MOVIE PRODUCTION USING JUST MY PHONE AND FLASHLIGHT AND IT BETTER BE GOOD.
but this may just be me.
...
lol...and I need one for my 7 yr old! 🤣

If that was the case, then why are camera phones so popular? !!! Why do other providers make a strong commitment to them??!!!
...
Marketing ploy to younger customers. Not everyone needs those people. Other carriers market towards the younger crowd that want the bells and whistles and don't care about service quality. A lot of Verizon customers are average people or business customers that just want a phone that works.

What makes a camera phone less reliable then one without it?!!
Please explain that genius! 👿
...
I'm not saying it does. There are just a lot of people that come and and first thing say... I don't need or want a camera phone. A lot of people won't even look at them. Plus, they are more expensive.

But you have to admit that there is a good number of people that do look for that. Otherwise these phones wouldn't be so popular.
Right?
I would like to just see VZW offer more.
😉
...
I guess... just not in my store. I hardly sell any camera/video phones. I've sold a fair amount of LG6000's, but that's it. I had a 7000 and Moto V710 forever and just recently got rid of them. I'll not be ordering anymore of those unless a customer requests one.
...
I would like to see vzw release the Kyocera Koi.
...
How many more camera phones do you want? 😕 off the top of my head I counted 7 and about three of them have vide/camera
...
And on top of that they are "good" phone the 9900 has great picture quality I'd rather have that many camera phones than 20 and 2 that have good quality..........
...
I would have to agree that the camera/videos phones don't sell all that much anymore. Granted we did sell a ton of 6000s and 8900s when then came out, but lately it seems like people either want the kx414 or 3200 cause they are inexpensive. In my own opinion i think camera/video phones are over rated. I would rather buy an expensive phone that doesnt have a camera. When a new phone comes out im usually more intrigued about it if it doesnt have a camera.
...
Regardless of whether a phone needs to have bells and whistles to be a good phone, in order to be competitive, vzw needs to be able to at least match its competition's strong points.
Good service is a very important thing. However, if your competition can seem to match it without necessarily actually matching it, and can also offer more value added phones and a wider selection, then you're not competing effectively (not to mention deals like rollover, etc.). The "IT" facter is very important in promoting emerging technology like phones that are also cameras and video cameras/pda's/bluetooth enabled remote controls/hi bandwidth modems/etc. If vzw refuses to address this then it gives itself a black eye and ultimately probabl...

I think Verizon knows what they are doing. They haven't had any trouble getting to number 1 and staying there until now. Cingular won't be on top for long. Look at the net adds... Verizon can't be beat. They know what they are doing. There is no need to have something if people don't really want it. That sounds like a waste of money to me.
...
here's where your argument fails...
customers NOW have the choice of a large network with no frills or extras OR a LARGER network with extra features out the yazoo. the net adds will decline for VZW.
...
A larger network with frills that doesn't work won't attract anyone. I realized how much I hate Cingular yesterday. I was trying to call and friend and all I got was a network busy. The next time I got absolutly nothing. That's not uncommon with Cingular.
...
😳
What area does your friend live in? That's some pretty crappy crap for crap. (the service, not what you said)
...
Kentucky... I also have a friend here in Indiana that I've gotten similar things with. Couldn't get through to her at all one day.
...
Hot butta... that's bad for us. Do you know which network they were on? (GSM or TDMA)
...
Now why would I want to help you guys?? lol j/k
The one is Kentucky is on GSM.. I believe the Indiana one is on TDMA.
...
lol, yeah... I ask because I like to give customers realistic scenarios. We probably just don't have enough towers around there, but who knows when they'll get around to fixing that.
I prefer working with other companies to name calling, *looks around* and I know there are always things to work on. The only company I just can't stand is Sprint, but most of that is because of an ex =o)
...
you are crazy... cingular MANHANDLES VZW in EVERY state south of the mason dixon line.
...
I guess I need to touch up on my geography now. 😲
...
If you say so. I can let you talk to him... he's a Cingular customer and will tell you it's the truth.

Also, I'm not a kid. I'm a professional that sees the camera option on a phone as a useful business tool.
Listen, I like VZW service and won't switch to any other. But their phones are just way behind other providers. Its not asking to much for them to have phones that can be up to par with other companies.
That has nothing to do with the service!!!
...
It depends on how you look at it. Maybe they spend more money on the network instead of bells and whistles on the phones.
I actually wish there were more basic phones out right now. There are only two options for flip phones with no camera & color ID display on outsite. The LG4500 and 4600. You've got the Samsung A650 and LG3200 but they have no caller ID display. Then you have a whole slew of camera phones... LG6100 & 7000, Samsung A610 & A670, Motorola V710, Audiovox 8910 & 9900.

You guys just don't get it! Is it asking to much to have what other providers already offer their customers?! We're not asking for a new invention or as you say "TOY".
If you want a plain phone, then get one. I could care less. But don't make it seem like We're asking for the imposable. Otherwise, companies would only make your boring phones. But in the real world, its not like that. Camera phones are popular! Why do you think Nokia, samsung, Kyocera, and the others are making and improving so many of these styles of phones??!!
...So no, its not a stupid argument as one of you guys mentioned. Its act...

What do you guys want a toy, sorry vzw sells phones, if you want a toy go to toys r us or something..... 🙄

So I take it you mean that the 9900 is the more desirable phone? I can get that phone tommorow at my local place and it is less expensive to boot.
I guess that is probably what I will do, if anyone has a reason why I should not, please respond.
Thanks
...
Not unless you change service. (I wouldn't recommend that.) Unfortunately that is the best that VZW offers.
...
In my area verizon is the best service available, the others are both regional providers and dont have very good service.
...
In my opinion the Audiovox 9900 is the best VZW phone. Great reception (the most important feature), good camera, video, speakerphone, tri mode. What more should I expect out of a good phone? If I had Cingular, what could I get for the same money? Just curious because I believe that VZW is the best network and I believe I have a great phone.
...
I agree with you on this one. Despite the annoying fact that I have to block my text messages temporarily until they fix the Mobile IM issue, the 9900 is excellent 😁, great call quality, great reception, great features.
Sure you can wait for the 8940, Koi, or whatever else comes along that looks good. Just go with whatever fits your needs...and if you get the 9900, I'm sure you won't be disappointed.
...
Anyone want to compare the 6100 to the 9900?
I want to be happy with this phone for the next two years.
Thanks

You should try reading the user reviews on this site for the 6100 and 9900... a lot of the ppl who chose one or the other tormented themselves about which way to go on this and heavily compared the two.
Some even intentionally got one for the 15-day trial period, turned it in, and then tried the other. 🙂
...
I picked up the 9900 today, have not played with it much, but so far I like it alot. The few calls I have made have been crystal clear.
Thanks for all the info
Paul
