Verizon Pro-rates the ETF?? Nice!

Just found out today that Verizon pro-rates the ETF. Very nice... are they the only major carrier who does that right now? When did this go into effect?

Of course, the ETF going down only 5 bucks per month isn't much, especially on 1-yr contracts, but it does show that they're confident you'll stick with 'em.

I'd be really surprised if Sprint does this currently, without any major catches. đŸ˜ŗ

I really think that for the average customer, Verizon is the best carrier. They focus mostly on coverage so that people can make and receive calls. There are other phones with lots of toys and gadgets, but the average person doesn't really need that stuff. Some of them use it, but it's not really that important.

Having said that, I think that Verizon really markets to the majority of people. There will be people that are extremely dissatisfied with them, but for the most part, they will keep customers so they don't need to worry about the prorated ETF or paying for people's minutes to try them out or whatever other promotions they happen to have going.

I like both of those a lot. I think I'd actually prefer the 8830, but I can see the appeal in the Treo.

Guess I paid it no mind 'cuz my contract's not up 'til November. Still, it's nice. Surprised they don't advertise it more... "we're so confident that you'll like us that..." 😎

I forgot which states mandate pro-rated ETF's, but to my knowledge, Verizon Wireless is the only carrier that pro-rates ETF's nationally. I however won't have the pro-rated ETF until my next upgrade ☚ī¸ .

ETF = Early Termination Fee

for every month you're under contract, VZW takes away $5 from the beginning $175 ETF...so if you're on month 6 of a 24 month contract and cancel, you're charged $145 instead of $175...

If you're with another carrier, if you cancel 4 days before your contract end date, you're still charged the whole ETF...

Of course this is only for people who started or renew their contract after the Nov 06 start date when this went into effect

Verizon is the only carrier doing this and it applies to all contracts signed on or after Nov. 16th 2006.

OK. So my gf might go to Cingular for the iPhone. I might go to because I need the M2M. My contract is over in one year and I don't qualify for the prorated etf.

But if I do an early upgrade and get the promo price for a phone and the new prorated etf and cancel a couple of months later technically my etf is $10 less and I can sell the phone and hopefully get more than what I paid for it.

I might not sell it until I try the Cingular network and make sure I get good reception and non dropped calls 🙄 (eastern New England and Boston area) but does that sound plausible?
