I'd appreciate some comments from people who
had services in Chicago recently with
Verizon and Cingular, and can compare.
My old phone is dying, and I thought of getting
a new one under NE2 with Verizon, but ran
into a couple of problems. First, Verizon's
system shows my contract as a 1-year,
although I did sigh up for a 2 year contract;
and I was not able to fix that with a customer
service. Second,
there is no comparable plan available to
what I have right now (Local plan, 1000
mins/month for $45). I hardly ever call during
the weekends and nights, so I don't care
for their more expensive night/weekend offerings.
I hate switching after having service with Verizon
for 4 years, but the customer service rep,
altho...

Try another rep... or their manager.

I actually did, and got a much better explanation
of what the problem was. Their system
cannot go as far as 2000 when I signed
up with a 2-year agreement, and all it shows
is the 1-year agreement I had signed
after the first contract ran out.
I haven't kept any paper trail since 2000
to prove a 2-year agreement.
In addition, they now claim I already
changed the phone (not true, had
the same original phone since my first
contract). Sigh.

I'd recommend escalating your concerns to the next level of management if you feel that you have a good case.
...
Where is your number based out of? They may not be able to offer you the New every two credit in the retail location because of the feature not appearing on the account. However, if you are looking to sign into a new two year agreement with VZW, and looking for the NEWE2 credit call customer service and ask to speak with a Supervisor if the Customer Care Rep isn't able to apply the credit to the account. You are a value to our Company and if you've been a customer with us since 2000, then we want you for another 4+ years, and I'm sure that we can resolve your equipment concern and find a price plan to match your wireless usage in the same price range, if not cheaper!!

My sister has Cingular. She lives in Wauwatosa, WI near Milwaukee. Several times a month she attends meetings in Chicago. She tells me her Cingular has never failed her.
I have no info to offer on Chicago Verizon service or any NYC service.
...
whats to say you cant just renew your current contract? ... not sure if that will work with new every 2 or not, but it should.
...
Folks,
appreciate your replies.
Sarah143VZW, my phone is in area code 312 (Chicago
downtown).
gmcjimmyguy, I was told NE2 requires switching
to currently offered calling plans.
...
Shouldn't your records (i.e, billing information and such) be in their computers? I had the same problem with my NE2, they said I was on a 1YR contract...but all I did was tell them when I signed on and they fixed it right there. If I were you, I'd push for my case...not all of them know what they're talking about, nor will they want to escalate your problem to the next level...like at my local VZW store 🙄 but we won't go there. I personally find my experience with VZW reps on the phone to be a whole lot better than in person. Try all your options, and if you still run into a dead end, go with whatever suits your needs best.

Anytime you upgrade your equipment at promotional priocing you must get onto a current price plan. You can not stay on an old price plan and buy a discounted phone. It is that way for every customer.
...
Not trying to switch you to TMobile, but our upgrade discounts are once a year and don't require switching your rate plan. We have 1000 anytime (free roaming and long distance nationwide) for $39.99. I am in the Chicago area, so I can vouch for that and my parents are in NY, and they tell me the service is great there. Alss, we only do one year contracts. Just giving you another option. If you are interested, I can make you a sweet deal on a new phone.
...
jhmlbrgr, it's too bad.
TMoFreak: thanks for the offer, but there
is no t-mobile service in my apartment :-)
...
Cingular has a nationwide plan (no roaming charges, no LD charges) with 1000 minutes, and rollover for 39.99 ;) It's available to new customers.
And I've already heard in this thread that someone has impeccable service with cingular in Chicago.
...
Verizon also had this same deal.. and may still have in some markets (no roll over obviously). Just remember that this does not include any nights or weekends or mobile to mobile calling.
...
yeah....ours has rollover though...eh? eh? *nudge nudge*
...
What can I say? lol I'd debate you over it but I've just had enough debates! I wanna have us all just get along! ;)
...
aww, hugs for everyone!!! =oP
...
oh I know. I'm only playing. Id like a debate even less than you, actually...it makes me want to thwack people with sticks.
...
If I ever want Cigular I'll call you! lol
...
Thwack... what an excellet work. Hurray for onomatopoeia!
