Should my Dad expect service in his area?

Hello!

I emailed customer service and asked if there is a tower within the normal range of expected service from my Dad's house. They came back twice with the same canned answer that "Verizon Wireless has many wireless towers throughout the service area...." and "For this reason, as well as for security purposes, it is not possible to release the requested proprietary information regarding the exact location of our towers."

I never asked for the exact location. I just asked if he should have any reasonable expectation of getting good service, based on his location in relation to Verizon towers.

He has been to the local Verizon store at 2428 Las Positas Road in Livermore (350 yards south of the I580 freeway) to have his Motorola V60s...

I looked up Livermore, CA in EROES under America's Choice City Listings and it said that Livermore gets coverage from San Fran. So from what i see, he should get coverage. 😳

Funny enough, he actually lives within 10 miles of one of VZW's official drive routes for testing new handsets: 680 South. Problem is, it looks as if he is ~2 miles from 580, a major highway. That would be the expected fringe of coverage for a tower servicing the highway. But it depends, because you also have Pleasanton to the West; a town that I know from personal experience to have good coverage. Given the dense population of residential area, I would expect there to be good coverage.

That is a beautiful area, by the way.

Verizon CS FINALLY coughed and said there are three towers in his area. Now all I have to do is get him to call.

As a friend who has a cell phone and go to his place to check for service.

Or the easiest way... buy the phone and turn it on at the house to see if there is service(How many bars do you have?). Return to the store of purchase, get a refund, and activate it at the lower price.

Thanks for the response, but I think you missed this paragraph in my post:

"He has been to the local Verizon store at 2428 Las Positas Road in Livermore (350 yards south of the I580 freeway) to have his Motorola V60s phone replaced several times, firmware updated, etc, to no avail. Since reception is good at the store, it has done him no good to take his complaint there. He lives another 1.79 miles south-southeast from the Verizon store and gets poor reception. His lives at the intersection of College Ave and S. Livermore Ave in Livermore, CA, 94550-4834 (37.674N latitude x 121.757W longitude). Everyone he knows on Verizon gets poor reception there."

He already has phone service, it just sucks from his house. Everyone he know who has V...

Don't know a better way to put this, but in some areas some carriers are better than others. Based upon your post, that's as good as Verizon is going to get at your dad's house. I'd suggest trying another carrier, preferably one that has a return guarantee if things don't work out in so many days or less.

Where I live, AT&T TDMA & Verizon were one & two respectively for the longest time. Now T-mobile & Cingular have brought their network to the area & have taken over for best signal/coverage.

Your dad needs to talk to some more neighbors & find out what they're using.

Well, I know Sprint has a tower 3/4 of a mile from him.

There may very well be 3 towers in the general area, most likely triangulated around his house. Unfortunately, some people live in those fringe areas. It's just a fact of RF. When System Optimization is performed, there are target goals for call quality which dictate the output power of each of the sector's antenae. However, if your father is trying to get reception inside his home, building penetration losses are huge. Ask him, if he can, to step outside and try making the call.

The same result as inside. When he gets time, he is going to call them and try to work on it from his home instead of going to the store and having them tell him nothing is wrong.
