Is the At&T network really as bad as what's described here in this forum ? I have been a true Verizon loyalist for 7 years with no problems but honestly, I'm caught up in the whole iphone craze ...It looks sweet !!!! So I guess my question is: Is the At&T network that much inferior to Verizon's ? By the way, I live in South Florida (WPB area) ....Thanks !

I would try it out, but I'd hold off on the iPhone. There are a lot of things about it that seem really shady to me. I'm not a big fan of it. I can promise you that it will influence other manufacturers to come up with something to compete with it though. In the next year or two, there will be several phones like the iPhone (depending on its success) with different carriers. The iPhone might also be really buggy on release and fixed later on. It's hard to say if it will work well for a year or more (based on the fact that the battery is rated at 300-400 charges, I doubt it). Based on that, I'd wait 6 months or so to see what happens before you jump ship.

This is purely from personal experience, so YMMV depending on where you live. I used to subscribe to AT&T, which even after mixing with Cingular was unable to provide a steady signal in my area. I asked their Customer Service if there were any downloadable updates to pick up any new towers, and hopefully improve reception. They didn't know what I was talking about. I gave up the use of a $250 GSM smartphone because it was basically just an expensive phonebook with all the dropped calls. I haven't had any dropped calls with Verizon.

You know, I really didn't think about all the competitors and what phones they may develop to compete with the iphone. I would rather stay with a reliable network and be able to actually make calls than to switch and deal with the drops. And who knows, maybe Verizon will actually GET a couple of the new phones that will compete with Apple .....

I think the iPhone would be worth it for DATA ONLY, even at 2G. You always have wifi if you're in a heavily populated wifi area. As far as the actual phone side, I don't have much confidence in it's voice service. But man, true web surfing... that's how it should be!

Over the last many years I have had all of the carriers (at least the main ones). They all worked and they all had problems. You have to pick what is most important to you. I think Verizon has a good network, but when I had Cingular, its network worked just fine and they now have the best phones. I left Cingular because at that time, I did not like my phone. Now, i am with Verizon forever because my entire family is on the IN plan and they are not all about to change again. Personally, I don't like the iPhone specs. I think Nokia or Sony have the best phones. So, if you want the iPhone get it! I wouldn't.
