So yes the new law is in effect.. You can not use the phone while driving.. Big fines apply.. See below -

More important is the Iphone does not support voice dialing which would allow for LEGAL dialing while driving..

Iphone is the only current phone in production that does not have voice dialing. It's dangerous and they should be stopped from Selling devices that are dangerous.

Here is the Law -------

Cell Phone Legislation: Don’t Drive and Text in New Jersey

New Jersey passed stronger legislation for road safety. It is against the law in New Jersey to drive and use a hand held cell phone. The legislation extends to texting while driving too:

“New Jersey in 2004 made it illegal to talk on a hand-held cell phone while d...

yea that does...and i would say texting can at times be more distracting then talking on a cell phone even with a headset...

but overall i think that if your holding a phone to your ear or have a headset...its the same degree of impairment when driving so i think that the no cell phone while driving law is dumb.

No way man...2 hands vs one is a big difference. I dont really agree with these laws cuz they are kind of hard to enforce and I would be interested to see how much they change accident rates.

They are pretty much just ways for local gov's to bring in more revenue.

2 hands is definetly not easier to drive than 1...they are exactly the same unless u are dyslexic.

yeah one handed is about the same as two in most situations...but when the other hand is holding a phone and talking to someone, that is different that normal one handed driving with no phone.

I was watching an episode of Mythbusters where they compared drunk driving to driving while talking on a cell phone. They had a driver's ed teacher score the way the drove as if they were taking a driving test. The tests between driving intoxicated and driving using a cell phone scored about the same. They couldn't believe it. I had a hard time believing it myself.

I wander how the drivers ed teacher's score book would look like with people going thru their purse while driving, looking thru the cd wallet for a paticular cd while driving, changing the radio while driving, reading a book, newspaper while driving, typing on the laptop while driving, or watching tv while driving. These are all things I see daily while I am going down the road.

There are way more distractions in cars then the cell phone, dont forget the billboards we read on the side of the road while we drive.

Cwcandy was right on when he said these laws are not passed for our "safety" in mind, they are passed to raise more money for the state. I am sure glad that we have the government looking out for our best interests...there ...

So you're saying that with one hand on the wheel and one holding the phone to your ear you can signal a lane change and execute it perfectly all while trying to maintain your conversation? I don't talk on the phone much while driving, but when I am I will sometimes go quiet for a few seconds while I try to maneuver through traffic and think about whet I'm saying, and I have a hands-free, leaving both my hands available to maintain control of my vehicle.

Texting is WAY too much of a distraction to be allowed while driving, I can barely do it with 2 hands, much less have to do it with 1 while trying to drive.
