Man reportedly dies from phone battery blast

A Chinese man has died after a cell phone battery exploded in his chest pocket, according to the Associated Press and other news sources.

Xiao Jinpeng, a welder, reportedly died while working at the Yingpan Iron Ore Dressing Plant in Gansu. A county official told the Xinhua News Agency that the welder had a Motorola phone in his pocket. Colleagues quoted by the agency said the phone was apparently exposed to high temperatures. Xiao suffered broken ribs, and rib fragments pierced his heart, according to reports.

A Beijing spokesman for Motorola, however, is quoted by the Associated Press as saying it's "highly unlikely" that one of the company's product

Not a Moto fanboy at all, but it did say he was a welder...he probably screwed up some welding blew something up. I don't think those batteries are as explosive as some C4...

Na this is a clear sign to me to stay away from Moto phones, sides i like my enV and Chocolate. Ya i know that i'll get a lot of poo over it but my enV ROCKS and my pink chocolate rocks when playing music and is a great way to start a conversation with the ladies. And ya know the greatest part of it, i have had zero problems with ether of them.

He is probably one of those guys that wears dark pink button down shirts with a lighter pink tie to make the combo look perfect.

Please you gotta be crazy. I don't wear a tie unless i'm in an interview. I'm from the sticks and drive an ugly 4wd truck. Its just something new and different for a red neck to have a pink phone.

Yes i do is there a problem with that? Just because a man wants the most unique phone doesn't make him fruty. I love it cause everyone asks about it. It takes a real man that doesn't care what others think. Say what you want i use it for everything it can do. (and when i'm sitting in a bar or walking through a store the girls just gotta talk to me about my phone)

Doesnt have to be anywhere near as strong as C4 to injure or kill you though. And you CAN make a li-on battery explode or catch on fire under the right conditions. Even the wrong ones, sometimes:

My guess? Phone (and thus battery) got too close to the welding torch, or he fumbled the torch and flamed the phone for a moment. Boom ensued.

Poor guy. ☚ī¸

Kyocera was having a problem with exploding batteries a few years ago. I don't think anyone died, but there were a few people hospitalized. At least one person was talking on his phone when it exploded.

I remember that. The LG TM-520 did that too.

Ahhhh yes... The Kyocera SE47 Slider. Phone looked like an alien bug. I'm not surprised it spontaneously combusted..lol

But I am curious to know.............. How did the first guy that phone blew up on explain it to the reps that it wasn't his fault. You know, cuz we always inspect, deem it warranty or customer damage. How many times and reps do you think he went through before they finally caught on? đŸ¤Ŗ oops..it's not funny 👀 wait.. yest it is 😈
