When Upgrading to a New Phone, I Can Just Change the ESN Myself, Right?
I'm upgrading in two days, quick question:
When I get my new phone, I can just change my ESN online in My Account, I'm not REQUIRED to have the rep do it, and thus get charged for it, right?
Just want to have some ammo in case I get a guy who for whatever reason tells me "its policy" that they change the ESN in-store, or whatever. I've heard of this happening once, though the source was admittedly less than reliable.

I know you can do it online if you order it thru tele sales. I have upgraded phones before at corp. stores and I have never been charged for them to switch the ESN. If they are going to charge you for it, say thanks, but no thanks. There are other places to get a phone and they wont charge you for it.

You can change your esn online for free but if your upgrading your phone with a new contract then you wouldn't be charged a fee anyway. You only get charged when changing to a previously owned phone.

You do not get charged for an ESN change on an upgrade.
You cannot leave the store with a phone that is not activated in most cases.
If you do the upgrade online and the phone gets shipped to you, the activation is done by you calling in from a landline or other phone and keying in some codes. Once that is done, you turn the new phone on, dial *228 then 1 to activate the phone.

First part correct...you are not charged for an ESN change on an upgrade.
Second part incorrect...you can buy a handset full retail without activation. A change made a few months back...it used to be no handset left without being programmed, but not anymore.
