Unlimited IN Messaging or 500 additional for AIM/MSN?

Just wondering my friend is thinking about getting the $10 Unlimited IN plus 500 messages, but she's (or I) not sure if the Unlimited IN applies to mobile AIM/MSN or not. Does it? Or does it use the 500?

When I used to use Mobile AIM (stopped because battery drains) my text usage would go up by at least 1000 and I am not really the heaviest user.

I highly highly recommend your friend gets on either the 2500 IN Message plan which is ONLY $5 more or the select plans.

I think you should go ahead with the select plan. That way you don't have to worry about any overages whatsoever.

She's not a heavy a user, so the select plan would be a waste... if I'm doing the math right.

Basic = $40 + $5 (250txt or $10 (500 IN/txt) + ~$5 (taxes) = ~$50 or 55/mo

Select = $60 + ~$5 (taxes) = ~$65/mo

Do correct me if I'm wrong. I see it as what's worth it to her (and I) in terms of what we really use rather than what we get.

As another user pointed out, they're not really a heavy user either... every single IM is an SMS message and each command sent/recvd via SMS is a message. I've seen it rack up... and fast. I've seen the bills too... as a recommendation from a CS call center rep...

Upgrade to the select plan for the first month you have it. About halfway to 3/4 of the way thru your bill cycle, have the user of the phone dial #data to get the messaging usage (or check yourself on vzw.com). On the select plans, #data will show you in net and out of network messages totals. That way you can gauge. If she's well below a smaller plan, downgrade it the next bill cycle. That way, the most you're out is 10-20 bucks difference in the plans (depending on where you a...
