I'm quite sure that I'm not the only one who feel that VZW is falling behind. This VZW forum has become an extension of AT&T. I know we have the best CS, but that doesn't seem like it's cutting it anymore. I think by the time this supposed iphone killer is out, AT&T will have a new version of the iphone, kaiser, or some other device we will want. Don't get me wrong, I'm loyal to the big red machine, but this stretch with no new phones in sight is testing my patience(as well as others). I wonder if the chip ban is responsible? Either way, I hope there is a feasible reason for any delay to the 6800. Did we really need a newer versions of the chocolate,8300,8600(8700)? In my opinion the new chocolate was a half assed answer to the chocolate. Wel...

Lets see, you specifically said AT&T 3 times in your post, rambled about the iPhone, and bad mouthed the current VZW handset lineup.
You dont sound very loyal to me.
Maybe you're part of the problem.

I haven't ported yet. Just venting bro...easy.

I agree with detroit. Verizon sucks when it comes to getting new phones. Most of the phones that come out are dated in every regards, anyways. Lets put it this way. If it wasnt for the service. I would port in a heart beat. So anyone that says otherwise is a verizon employee or just a dumb ass!

You can call me a dumb ass if you want, but I don't want a phone that's like the iPhone. I could careless. I want a phone that works like a phone first, and other features second. Maybe you're ready for an iPhone like phone, but others are not. I still haven't taken advantage of V-Cast on my Samsung a930 (which I got 3 weeks after it was released last year).
...
No I would not call you a dumb @*$. As for me I dont want an iphone.

That's a fact. Just a matter of time before VZW slipps way down. You can't keep treating customers like this and expect to stay up there...

the new chocolate is bad ass what are you talking about? the 8350 should be sweet and the 8700 is a great phone for everything but music so stop hating.
I do agree that we need more new phones but those three you mentioned should be/are very good

Mmm... nope, its pretty much the same as its always been. Though I do agree that's there's a number of Sprint and ATT trolls coming 'round. But that's nothing new.

Don't know where you get that from... W385 and the new Chocolate just released in the past couple of weeks. Maybe there's nothing releasing that you personally are into, but new phones have been dropping.
Did we really need a newer versions of the chocolate, 8300, 8600(8700)?

And the 8700 is a nice addition to the LG lineup, gorgeous metal case and better speakerphone than the 8600.
The 8700 is a piss poor replacement for the 8600. I think the 8700 is a cool phone, but a replacement for the 8600? It doesn't seem like it. No outside camera, sideways outer screen, the price difference...I wish they had kept the 8600 along with the 8700. There are enough differences to justify keeping both of them. The 8600 has always sold well in my store. I think they're idiots for getting rid of it.
...
I don't think that the 8700 is necessarily a replacement for the 8600 (that was more detroit313's take on it)... aside from both being slim phones, they don't seem at all similar.
The 8600 does need some kind of replacement though... that speakerphone is the worst thing I've ever heard (well, more like worst thing that no one can hear, lol). What were they thinking there? đŗ
I do hope they release an '8650' or whatever eventually. I like the 8600's styling very much.
...
I agree that the speakerphone on the 8600 is really bad. I went from a Motorola E815 to an 8600, and I was pleased in every aspect except for the speakerphone. I just bought a bluetooth headset, and that solved the problem.
I've heard several times that the 8700 is the replacement. If that's true, it's disappointing. The price alone makes the 8700 much harder to sell.
...

And I've heard several times that Verizon is going to convert to GSM. Just because something is said a few times, does not make it true. đŗ
When I see an 8650 being released, then I'll consider it an 8600 replacement. Like you said about the price difference, doesn't even seem like the 8700 is targeted at the same market the 8600 was... this is part of why I don't see it as a replacement.
...
ummm... verizons web site starts selling the 8700 and they take the 8600 off the list... sure looks like a replacement move to me...
...
Could be.
Could also be that LG wanted to retire the 8600 anyway, but didn't feel comfortable doing it until they had another slim clamshell in their lineup ready to sell. Otherwise, people would be sayin', "HOWCUM NO SLIM FLIP PHONES FROM LG?!? THIS SUXXX!!!" đŗ
However, given that the 8700 is priced high-end, while the 8600 was priced midrange, I don't know if the intent is as a strict replacement.
I think LG would be surprised at how popular an 8650 w/improved speakerphone would be.
...
I agree with detroit, all he is saying is most phone junkies are tired of seeing just duplicate clones that offer nothing new, chocolate, 8700, soon to be razr2 đ good grief verizon release some decent smart phones, for the love of God the treo 700p is not cool...ATT is smoking verizon's ass N75, iphone, Curve etc...and of course un-crippled no commie ui functioning phones.
...
And yet the iPhone is crippled to all hell... have you checked out the bluetooth on that thing?
...
Yes that phone is an exception, all regular ATT phone have full bluetooth stack.
...
Look fellas, I only made a point that VZW IS and WILL ALWAYS be last to release new phones. It's common knowledge. Please, I didn't mean to hurt anyones feelings, Just venting. By the way All the phones I did mention were just well... remixed like a p-diddy track. Although a little fresher, still the same old song. That's what it is. No I'm not porting. I'm gonna stick it out. Say what you will, we all know it to be true.

Why would anyone's feeling be hurt? We're just talking about phones.

Not really... the 8700 doesn't look anything like the 8600, 'cept they're both slim.
8350 also looks pretty different from the 8300, if you've seen the advance pics.
...
8350, same phone... remove stub antenna, put round external media player buttons and maybe try to bite some Moto PEBL look. Stereo Speakers are now on the back instead of the side.

I dunno... looks significantly different to me:
https://www.phonescoop.com/carriers/forum.php?fm=m&f ... »Though for what it's worth, I hope on the
inside it isn't changed much... everyone raves over what a good/reliable performer the 8300 is.
...
It's disappointing they moved the speakers to the back of the phone. One of the key advantages to the 8100 was the clarity that you get while holding the phone open in your hand. You'll lose some of that with the speakers going to the back of the phone.
...
I agree, as an employee I even excepted more when a CEO says we have something for the iphone and it turns out to be another Chocolate or another Q. Let face it Verizon's New phones are just revisions of the old ones.
8000>>8100>>8300>>8350
8500>>8550
5200>>5300>>5400
Q>>Q9M
XV6600>>6700>>6800
V3C>>V3M>>VE>>V9M
So on and so on....
Sure you got a brand new wallpaper and some changes to the UI. But have you seen any innovated improvements that make you say this is WAAAAAAAY better then the last one. 8550 might be the only exception because the 8500 was horrible. When they said AT&T and Iphone, we said VZW and LG Prada type phone. Some form of Direct competion or a Windows Mobile Variant with some kinda cool touch interface atleast....

Well gosh, good-selling, successful phones get sequels... imagine that. đ˛
'Sequel' phones aren't really the problem. The problem, as you say, is a lack of innovative, 'wowser', high-end phones. Every once in awhile you get something nice (like the LG 9400... you might not like it, but others do), but what some people are really lusting after is stuff like CDMA versions of the Prada, Nokia N95, Blackberry Curve, etc... i.e. 'drool-worthy' phones.
And I agree with you, Verizon needs to put a greater emphasis on and more resources into getting such phones.
High-end phone customers may be a minority of the market, but they're a very profitable 'minority'- they tend to have more expensive plans, they're more likely to buy data plan...

I hope they come out with a sequel to the Samsung a990. I wanted one of those, but I'm not eligible to upgrade until November. They'll be long gone by then.

Most of my family, almost all of my friends and my employees use Verizon, but have been looking into other options. It has been two years since Verizon came out with the Treo W. And I'm sick of it's problems. Not interested in the new Q...who knows when that will be out, but it's nothing compared to some of the other PDAs that other carriers offer. Once my company switches over, my family and friends will eventually follow and It will probably happen sooner than later. Some of the other carriers are not as bad as they used to be as far as customer service...I'm researching them and trying them out now...I'll keep you all posted. Verizon is REALLY REALLY lacking in the PDA department. It's very sad. But I'm looking forward to changing.

New PDAs are coming soon. Very soon.

Yeah, so is the second coming of Christ. He can have my old Treo and use Verizon.

From my understanding VZW is paying a percent amount to bypass the ban, while Sprint is making a software patch as a work-around the ban.
at&t has a great LOOKING selection of phones. at&t does lack a superior network like VZW. at&t, fewest dropped calls...LOL...great marketing. Most wireless manufactures will cater to GSM, because it's a bigger market, and of coarse, more money.
If you want a great LOOKING selection of phones, GSM. at the moment, and probably for a very, very long time, will be ahead of greater selection of phones.
Want a network, pick what works for you, such as mobile to mobile calling, price plan, coverage area, etc.
Want a phone, switch to GSM, and enjoy a handsome selection of phones, that lack 3G in most ...

3G GSM (WCDMA) requires totally new equipment, whereas new evolutions of 3G CDMA only require a software upgrade on the network.

Very true, which is much more cost effective for the business. This allows CDMA carriers to spend money expanding their coverage and other ventures....such as purchasing rural carriers!

lol, like the last comment. Not to also mention better call quality and security.

Verizon Wireless does spend more money on it's network then AT&T. I would agree to this statement if it wasnt for the fact AT&T spent more money on Dobson/Cellular One and they have more towers (although some aren't powered on or up) due to the Cingular/AT&T Wireless Merger.
