It is always stupid when Verizon offers phones like this.

RAZR 2
1. Full HTML web browser; Which Verizon will disable.
2. POP Email access; Which Verizon will disable. Unless you spend more.
3. Linux-Java; Which Verizon will disable.
4. Full media player; which Verizon limits to their own content.
5. 500+MHz processor; which Verizon will never let you access the content that would make this type of processor worth it.

What is the point?! ...

It's pretty simple, actually. You have virus protection on your computer, right? Right. And why do we need it? Because everything is networked. Same goes here. In 1999 and 2001 Cingular experieced two regional complete network outages that they traced to people performing the kinds of hacks on their phones that you would like to do. Even still, Cingular and Tmobile alike have experienced network issues because of the openness of their phones. Sure, it may be great for you, but who cares about you? The bigger issue is the health of the network, and you should know that. I wouldn't expect someone who can't spell "crippled" to understand the subtle nuances of how what a phone can and can't do can effect every single person on that net...

Wait a second...

So is Verizon getting cool phones, or aren't they? This back and forth talk has me so confused.

How can anybody possibly answer that question? It depends on what you call cool. If you want Bluetooth OBEX so you can transfer music and pictures between phones, then go somewhere else. But keep in mind that every time you exchange something between phones instead of paying the company for it, it handicaps your carrier from doing its job. Verizon makes you pay for things so it can dump twice as much yearly into making their network better so you can enjoy it. See the big picture. AT&T doesn't even have a nationwide 3G network yet. And why? Because they're hell bent on insisting that the wireless industry is a goddamned fashion show of the coolest phones.

Then why do they allow OBEX on the motorola Q is that not going to jeopardize the network? 🤣 Dude stop with the PR crap it's making me sick.

Because people using PDAs actually NEED that capability. It's for a specific purpose, and that purpose isn't to share ringtones. Do you really think that it's a good idea for any carrier to effectively condone piracy? Wake up.

Dude for a brand new member and an apparent die hard kool aid drinker you've already messed up several facts! You can transfer pics and ring tones with many verizon phones...so your theory of putting more money into the network blah blah is wrong...it's just business that's all. network reliability 🙄

Jake, OBEX is on lots of Verizon phones now. Max Ve, LG-9900, 9400, enV, etc., etc.

Look at the Phone Details tab on the website. 'File Transfer' is it now. My Pictures, My Videos, My Sounds.

You still need an expansion card to move Music, or a cable for ringtones.

I was being sarcastic. People are always complaining in this forum that Verizon doesn't have any cool phones. This guy comes along and says Verizon gets all the cool phones but disables them. I just thought it was funny.

It's a money thing, which is why the Bluetooth OBEX [object exchange] is crippled, despite what reps will tell ya. Why should they let you have free music, wallpapers, etc.... when you can buy theirs?

i dunno if people don't realize this but there is a lot of ways to get free ring tones and wallpaper... u just have to cheat. if you have ever text your e-mail a picture you will notice your phone has its own personal e-mail addy. usually its like ur phone number @ vzw.com or whatever... anyway... email ur phone pictures and sound back then save them to the select files. it will come through your phone as a mms ( picture or sound message) its pretty simple. on my old razor and on my friends 990 we have tons of wallpaper and music.
