Verizon Cripples Bluetooth on RAZR2 now?

wnrussell

Aug 14, 2007, 9:24 PM
PC Magazine Article:
Motorola RAZR2 V9m (Verizon Wireless)

This is hard to believe, if it is true. The Maxx had all of this and now the Bluetooth is gone again?

The phone doesn't support file transfers or modem use over Bluetooth; only headsets, car kits and speakers. (Other RAZR2 models support Bluetooth file transfers.)

I'm against bluetooth crippling too. I found a couple interesting facts about the article were that the editor was hacking on the verizon GUI on one hand, but then deemed verizon network supremacy so clearly translates into clearer calls, and that the V9M had the best voice performance...and then at the end of the article said the MAXX was the same phone.....ah no dumbsh*t if what you said is true the maxx offers OBEX,OPP and DUN so they are not the same...Me thinks the editor might not know the difference between his a$$ from a hole in the ground.

CNET phone reviews have been pretty close to worthless, from the ones I've read...

In fact, CNET in general is kinda lame. When you try to do all of tech in one site, the results are kind of generic/Wal-Mart-ish... you try to be all things to all people, and end up being very blah. ☚ī¸

Verizon has been doing their own thing to their phones for about two years. It's old and tired that people keep complaining about it. If you don't like it, go somewhere else. You did. Why are you still butt hurt over it? Really, what's the point?

I've been frequenting this forum for over a year and a half. The argument of "Wah wah wah, Verizon cripples bluetooth! I hate Verizon! Blah blah blah" adds nothing useful to the forum. It's old and tired. Do you honestly have nothing better to do than repeat something that's said over and over?

The OP wasn't complaining that I could see. He copy and pasted an article. Then you jumped on the bandwagon talking about how much Verizon and their UI sucks. Again, you add nothing useful to this forum. What's the point of coming here? You say the same things every time you come here.

The OP is the biggest advocate of bluetooth reform you must not been paying very close attention if you don't know that...if anyone needs to step away from the keyboard me thinks it's you. verizon needs to stop crippling bluetooth and quit with the commie ui, this article that the OP posted from a major website just confirms that so many are becoming aware of verizon's lame ui and crippled bluetooth.

Most people like Verizon's "lame" UI. It makes my job a LOT easier than when each phone has everything in a different place. It's easier to sell phones that all look the same.

I understand your complaint, but you have to understand that you are part of an extreme minority group. Complaining isn't going to change anything because the majority likes the way things are.

Again, you're adding nothing to this forum by being here. Do you honestly have nothing better to do?

And I know you think this way because you've stated many many times that you feel everyone loves the verizon ui, which simply is not true. i think your opinion is very corporate but you're entitled to it, and i will continue to post my dislike of verizon's crippled phones anytime i see fit. God Bless America! 😁

Well, you need to read my posts.

I acknowledged that there is a small minority of people that are bugged by the UI. The fact is that they're the minority of Verizon customers. Every single time I've told a customer that they won't have to relearn how to use their phone. People love that.

Personally, I don't mind the Verizon UI. I don't know why everyone complains about it. Everything is still there, Verizon just moved it around. For example, if you want to dig the phone number out of the phone, it's always in the same place no matter which phone you pick up instead of being in the settings or phone info or the address book etc without the UI. Simple as that.

I'm by no means a Verizon fan boy. I just think it's a complete w...

Why because you say so? See kiddo it doesn't work that way, just because a couple of your hick customers love it doesn't make it a rule. By standardizing the UI verizon has removed our choice of choosing the UI we prefer. But maybe you've never used a fully capable phone living in the sticks, so I won't hold that against you.

Now I understand you're having a good time trying to attack me, but keep in mind you're always going to have to read discouraging remarks about crippled bluetooth until verizon changes its ways.

Who is attacking you? I've asked you the same quetion maybe 5 times now, and you have yet to answer it. Do you honestly have nothing better to do with your time? There is no point in complaining about the Verizon UI. None. Zip. Nada. Stop trolling.

Even without the Verizon UI, you wouldn't be able to choose your UI. Before Verizon ever implemented their UI, there was one UI to choose from. It came from the manufacturer, but it was still only one UI. So I still don't see your complaint. Sprint works that way as well. Manufacturer UI. I suppose you could flash the phone and put a different UI on the phone, but you could do that with a Verizon phone as well. Again, I don't get it.

And it's not my "hick customers." It's the ...

Only one UI đŸ˜ŗ
No each manufacturer had their own individual UI..Motorola, Samsung, LG, Nokia, etc which gave the customer a choice in chosing which they preferred. Maybe you're just not a phone junkie, I used to find excitement when I would buy a new phone and would run through the UI different from the previous and find new options, now it's just all the same cloned crap. Worse then that though they've crippled bluetooth, and that is what this thread is all about, the OP is...

Only one UI per phone. You misunderstood me. Even with the Verizon phone, they have different appearances per manufacturer. LG has different "skins" for their UIs than Samsung or Motorola. They're all starting to come up with their own designs. I digress, it's much easier to pick up a new phone out of the box and know exactly how to use it. I don't have to dig around in 3 different places to find a simple function any more. People come in with a problematic phone, and I can fix it much faster than I used to be able to because everything is in the same place.

And you've hit the key point here. You're a phone junky that gets excited over little things like a new UI in your phone. The majority would rather not have to relearn how ...

As for crippled bluetooth...

Personally, again I don't really care. I don't care about ringtones or games or anything, but I understand the market there. I wish that Verizon would stop locking it down, but they're making progress. Bluetooth is slowly getting more and more capability with Verizon.

Well well we made some progress 😉 Hope you have a good rest of your day gotta bail. Peace

Just quit complaining about things you can't change. It's pointless, and it floods the forum making it harder to find someone that actually has something useful to say.

You guys are missing the point. Motorola hypes up the phone to have certain specs and publishes them on their website. Verizon does a press release that they are going to be carrying the phone.

Well, what the Motorola CEO Ed Zander promised us on May 15th this year was this. VERIZON SHOULD NOT BE ADVERTISING THIS AT ALL AS RAZR2.

11:03 - Completely redesigned UI, demoing with Danica Patrick. Crystal Talk that accounts for background noise, ups the volume. "It's also a talking phone." Has some text to speech going on, reads off some SMS. And SMS can be read and replied to without opening the flip.

11:10 - "Internet and email: RAZR 2 features a full HTML browser, now you can access all the sites you know and love. Access your gMai...

Can't say I agree.

While I also find Plat to be annoying at times, did it occur to you that perhaps the reason why Verizon has eased up (a bit) on the BT crippling lately may be due to the many complaints (and lawsuits) they're getting over it?

The BT crippling sucks, we all know that, and if Verizon has to hear about it 'til the end of time in order to get it through their thick skulls that it needs to change, then all I can say is, more power to the folks doing the complaining. 😎

And if I don't want to read a complaint post, I do the intelligent thing.... I don't click on it.
