Sleaze Factor?

Do all vendors sell selling Verizon phones and accounts charge the same prices with the same equipment?

I changed from Cingular couple days ago and wanted to try LG VX8600 and 8700, along with the 8300. The salesman (Berkeley University Ave) told me that the 8600 and 8700 were discontinued. I felt uneasy about him but was impatient so went with the 8300.

I then saw both 8600 and 8700 at another Verizon dealer nearby and was told that they were not discontinued - that he lied to me.

This second store then told me that there were no rebate deals on the 8600. Then, checking online I see that everyplace I look has two phone deals for exactly $99.98 after rebates.

Who can I trust, or is it a mistake to expect honesty?

I'm a customer, not a rep, and in my experience, yeah, some reps do lie, or at least fudge the truth. This is not specific to Verizon, its cellphone reps in general.

I read some sort of survey not long ago, that rated professions by their honesty... cellphone reps came in just a bit above used car salesmen, who ranked dead last (I don't think politicians or lawyers were on the list, lol). 🤣

Its not like they're gonna actively rob you blind so much, but they want to make the sale, so if they don't have a particular phone in stock, yeah, it wouldn't surprise me if a less reputable rep would say, "Oh, that phone got discontinued", or "Oh, that phone isn't any good anyway, totally unreliable." 😡

It's like anything else... if yo...

No, not all vendors charge the same. If you buy directly from VZW...corporate storefronts, customer service, vzw.com then you are buying from VZW directly.

If you buy at an outside retailer like Best Buy, Costco, Walmart, on an Indirect dealer store (which may have Verizon signs in window etc), then the price will more than likely vary. These retailers make commissions off selling Verizon services, so they set their own phone pricing.

Yes, 8600 was discontinued. Also, there may be certain phones that are exclusive to Verizon that outside dealers may not have and vice versa

99.99% of reps that give you the wrong info arent "lying" to you. They are just misinformed.

Both reps you went to were misinformed.

The first one by saying that the 8700 was discontinued.

And the second one by telling you that the 8600 hadnt been discontinued.
Which it has.

Like I said, most reps just dont have all the info, its not really their fault, they are giving you what they believe to be the truth.

VZW has the trickle down effect, The info comes out at the very top and has to make its way down to the sales reps through the account managers and store managers.

I am always on this site because I learn much more, and faster then what VZW tells me.

Last weekend, I was told (in a VZW store):

1) That the 8700 wasn't available anymore.

2) That the Motorola Q (current version) has WiFi (This was confirmed by the store 'expert' after I questioned it.)

3) That I'm not eligible for NE2 until next month. (Bought phone in Aug. 2005.)

4) That the unlimited data is truly unlimited.

5) That the Motorola W315 is the 'successor' to the E815.

... and a lot of other stuff I don't remember now.

The salesperson even mentioned phonescoop as a good place to get info (but he/she clearly doesn't spend much time here.)

I don't know if these were intentional misrepresentations or misinformation, but it doesn't really matter in the end because I can't rely on the information I get the...
