Yeah, Windows Mobile has been around for several years and several versions now, and still hasn't made a real dent in the market... there's prolly a reason for that.
Mac's arent perfect either, but if more people had I think the world would be a better place! đ
I think if it wasn't for the fact that Apple doesn't seem to want to compete on price, a lot more people would be switching to them, even more than are doing so now.
Apple sets certain price points, and then instead of lowering the prices, they just add features. This helps the consumer because it keeps the value high much higher.
I have a 3.5 yr old powerbook that I am about to sell for $400 bucks, and I only paid $1299 for it.
you can't do that with any PC, because they are always slashing prices. Its just like what american car companies do versus foreign cars companies.
Went into a Best Buy today where they have the new Mac display (of course Apple needs their own friggin display đĄ ) and went to a MacBook Pro and pulled up the Windows website and wrote in TextWhatever reasons why Windows Vista is better than Mac. Then I pulled up compaq.com in another window and wrote a note telling everyone to get a Compaq. đ
Anyway, there are threaded SMS apps you can get for Windows Mobile. Just look for it from different sites like xda developers. đ
Even if you love Windows/Microsoft, you gotta admit that the increased competition is good 'cuz it will spur Microsoft on to do better with their own products.
I've noticed a disturbing tendency for MS to not try very hard and get lazy with their own products when there isn't much competition. âšī¸

Same with Apple.

Doesn't seem to be true overall. OS X is pretty much what Windows wants to be, still, and of course the iPhone is shaking up the entire industry.
The one area where what you say might be true is the iPod, but allegedly Apple will have touch-screen iPods by Christmas. If so, I feel bad for SanDisk, Microsoft, Sony, and everyone else who's trying to compete with Apple in that space. đŗ
Other than a couple of added features that 95% of ppl don't seem use much (voice recorder, FM radio[which you can add to an iPod anyway], etc. etc.), what's so great about SanDisks, Zunes, Sonys, Creatives, etc?
I have a 2G iPod Shuffle and it sounds AMAZING, way better than anything else I've heard in that price range. And you can drop it all over the place and never hurt it (and I have). Even without a screen, its still better than anything I've seen in the range.
You gotta remember, mp3 players were around before Apple got there. It isn't like they started the market, and everyone just followed along and kept buying them out of inertia...

There is nothing good about iTunes that someone else hasn't done better.
Also, the sound quality has more to do with the file itself than the mp3 player that you're using. It's entirely possible that other programs you've used will copy a song from a CD at 92kbps vs 128kbps with iTunes. Then the actual file sounds quite a bit better regardl...

If WMP is so damn good, then why do we have around 300 million Windows users using iTunes? đŗ
RAM usage by iTunes has never really been an issue for me. In fact, you're the first person I've heard complain about it.
Far as sound quality goes, yes, it is of course affected by the file a great deal (GIGO, after all), but the player affects the sound as well. Not only in things like how good the included headphones are, but also in how the player's output stage is designed.
A very interesting article from PC Magazine explains this further, and ra...

THIS IS A THREAD ABOUT VERIZON's NEW Q PHONE!!!
Not a frikin Apple!!!!
Lets not compare apples with oranges and lets stick to the subject. If ya want an apple and an ipod, get a frikin iPhone and shutup!!
Now for those interested in a PDA phone. I currently have the old Q and am interested in the new Q but would like to see what the Samsung i760 can offer. I had the XV6700 and it was too bulky and voice sound quality was horrible. The 6800 isnt much smaller and probably still has same sound issues.
Samsung and Moto have been known for good voice quality. I loved my original i700 from a few years back so I will wait to see the i760 and maybe even the HTC Touch/Vogue.
Now those that want to tell me how their Commodore VI...

So, Rob, what do you think of that new touchscreen iPod that's likely comin' out for Christmas?
So to answer your question directly...
People use iTunes because they're forced to if they have an iPod. Most people don't like ...

But they're not forced to buy an iPod, now are they?
Far as the Photoshop/RAM/iTunes thing goes, I fire up and use Photoshop with ease with iTunes up.
However, my current comp is a Mac, its possible that makes a difference.

PS- This didn't strike me until my first reply, but I realized it later:
1) There's been roughly 300 million downloads of iTunes worldwide, the overwhelming majority of them Windows users.
2) Apple has only sold about 110 million iPods to date, worldwide.
Thus, NEARLY 200 million users, most of them on Windows, downloaded iTunes JUST TO MANAGE THEIR MUSIC, and NOT because they bought an iPod and HAD to. đŗ
Sorry Rob, but I think its checkmate on that particular point.

I just spoke with a rep and it's confirmed. They will be online on the 22nd, in stores on the 29th.
Ah, so the advance rumors were actually true. Bueno. đ
My guess is the 22nd is the very first day you can ORDER one (on the web).

Sorry. Saw that one coming. đ
Hang tight, with luck you get yours by the weekend, I'd think.
