gprs in phones
im trying find a phone with gprs, dont know what it really is but it needs it to be compatable with my gps system any idea wht verizon phones will have it or if the 6800 or i760 will?

GPRS stands for 'Global Packet Radio Service' but defined in actual usage, it is a cellular data connectivity (IP based). It is roughly comparable to dial up.
However, that has othing to do with Verizon phones. 🙂
GPRS is a GSM technology used by at&t and T-Mobile and the majority of carriers internationally,
How come not Verizon? Versus GSM, Verizon uses a technology called CDMA. GPRS is not compatible with CDMA. Which is why it has 'nothiong to do with Verizon'.
However, your CDMA phone has a like technology to GPRS called 1X. it does the same function for data services but just under a teachnology.
Last, both GSM and CDMA have faster data techmologies. GSM uses UMTS and CDMA uses EV-DO and both are roughly broadband speed....

ive got a tom tom gps thing and in order to use some of its features it has to sync with my phone and according to the manual i need a phone with gprs capability, i currently hve the tmobile dash and it does not work with that and i will be switching to verizon as soon as the 6800 or i760 comes out

Depends on which tomtom you have. from what I've seen, some have only GPRS Bluetooth support and, I think, newer versions have EVDO too. Problem is, that may not guaranty you will be able to sync it to your phone choice. With a PDA device, it is more likely though.
I personally think the 6800 will a bad dog...just looks so darn cool...

yea i have one of the newest versions its either the 710go or 910go but hopefully the 6800 or i760 will work with them, the 6800 does look badass but i still dont know which id rather get, prob whatever comes out first cause im tired of waiting
