Asurion is Offering Me a VX8600

After 14 mos, my 8300 began to die (wouldn't hold a charge) and the tech person at my local store suggested it was the phone and battery and that I go through Asurion to get a replacement. Not knowing any better I placed the claim. Asurion has sent me two phones, neither of which feels even close in quality to my original. In fact, neither micro SD door stays closed or flush to the phone. It seems as though they took the 'guts' of the phone and put a cheap replacement case on it.

In any case, I complained enough that they offered me a new rather than a refurbed phone. Unfortunately, since the 8300 has been 'discontinued' (their words, not mine), they can only offer me an 8600. I've heard mixed reviews. Can anyone with experience...

The 8600 is awesome if you don't need a speakerphone. If you use your speakerphone, try to get another 8300.

Was your phone physically damaged? Because if not, your tech was asking you to engage in insurance fraud. Verizon covers warranty-related issues. Asurion covers everything else.

As for the phone... haven't played with the 8600 but I am a big fan of the 8000/8100/8300 series. I'd stick with the 8300 if at all possible but that's just me.

The tech guy said there was 'something' wrong with the phone, though no real specifics. It's over a year old, so I think the warranty is expired. I'd love another 8300, but right now all Asurion has are these cheap feeling refurbished ones and the two they sent were definitely subpar. Hence the offer for the new 8600. I might return what Asurion sent, cancel the claim and try a replacement battery to see if that helps. If not, I'm only out $20 and can resubmit the claim (I think).

I have not been pleased with my 8600. I had to buy an extended battery because I could not even get but about a half day out of one charge. WIth the extended I get about a day and a half. Way off from my 8300. My Treo got about a day but I had it getting emails every 15 minutes. Reception is poor. I love the look though. It is real professional looking. I can't wait until I can get that LG 10000 on my concession line! WOW that phone looks like the real deal! The i760 Samsung looks hot too.

I really should have taken an 8300 on my concession but I was tired of it. The only other offerings were stuff like u340 and vx3450. Why would I want one of those for a demo?!?! LOL

The 8600 is a great phone. I have 3 of them on my family account. Have not had any issues with it.

At any rate, if you dont want the 8600 when it comes in, you can sell it new on ebay and take that money and buy a new 8300 off ebay.

Also, the 8600 is discontinued to. I would take the new phone and decide what to do when you get it. But the 8600 is a good phone. I have 3 of them in use right now on my account and a new one in the box for back up, that is how much I like the phone.

And on the speakerphone, yes the speakerphone is bad on the 8600, if you want speakerphone, then this wont work for you. I use bluetooth instead and like that better anyway.

I tried checking out the phone in person in my local corporate store, but they weren't carrying it. Does it have a headphone jack or is it bluetooth only? I checked various sites and the specs didn't say one way or the other.

It doesn't have a headphone jack. It comes with an adapter that plugs into the charge port that gives you a headphone jack. You can plug a wired headset into it, but you have the adapter sticking out of the side of the phone.
