Anyone recently switch from Cingular GSM to Verizon?
I've been a Verizon customer for 8 years now, so have never tried GSM service. I was wondering what differences people who have switched from GSM to Verizon have noticed, other than customer service. Do you notice any difference in call quality? Notice any difference in the places where you can use your phone, such as in buildings?
I know Cingular has some better plans and better phones available, so have been tempted to look into switching. But I wonder if the call quality and reception is as good as Verizon's. I live in the Chicago area, where reception is probably good as it gets for most carriers (no mountains--pretty flat).

i'm southern california. currently have 2 prepaid plans - 1 with Cingular and 1 with T-mobile GSM plus also have my 6 yrs old Verizon plan. Don't ask me why i have all 3, I just have them. I can say Cingular and T-mobile are good if you primarily do text messaging - cheaper and more reliable than Verizon especially if you do text messaging internationally. As for call quality, imo both of them pretty much suck compared to Verizon. Even with good signal (3-5bars), i either get static or i just get dropped calls. I spend more time saying 'hello, are you there' than actually talking. i just use my cingular for txt messaging nowadays and Verizon for all phone calls. had for 6yrs and wouldn't think of switching to either of the GSM carriers. btw,...

Thanks for the reply. I guess I'll stick with Verizon. The call quality wherever I've gone has always been good. I guess I can sacrifice rollover minutes to get good quality phone service.

I've been told that chicago's service is pretty much even with cingular and verizon, as far as reception, it depends on the phone.(DON'T get the Moto V400).

I recently switched from Cingular to Verizon. I think the call quality is alot better, my only problem with Verizon is in stores like Walmart, with Cingular I was able to have good signal strength in the back of the store, while Verizon had no signal strength. But I do like Verizon's local plans alot better than Cingular. With Cingular's local plan, you don't get unlimited mobile to mobile, which kinda sucks. And Cingular has better text messaging and MMS plans and mobile internet plans. But I would also say that Verizon's phones areb better in value, they're less expensive and you don't sacrifice features.
