I have an older Verizon phone (2+ years, beyond contract) and I want to upgrade to a newer phone (probably the VX7000).
Are the plan prices the same everywhere? Does it matter where I go?
That is, am I going to get the same plan options/prices, whether I go to the Verizon store, Verizon web site, Circus City, or some smaller guy in a strip mall?

They should offer the same plans as far as service anywhere you go, this would be governed by verizon wireless, not the store you are buying a phone from. The only thing I'd be cautious of, not saying it will happen, it shouldnt, but if you have a grandfathered pricing plan of course if you change plans you can't get it back, but make sure a phone upgrade won't change your plan. Also yes, where you buy the phone can have a significant factor as to what price you pay. Any corporate Verizon store will probably have the same pricing, and/or follow the "new every two" rule. Any indirect or 3rd party authorized dealers' phones do tend to vary in pricing, so shop around, couldn't hurt.

Thanks. I stopped by a Verizon store today. I was about to upgrade to the VX7000, but they didn't have one in stock.
I'm kind of glad they didn't. The guy had me convinced I should switch my current plan (NE NationalAccess 150) to America's Choice 300.
The cost per month is the same, but it appears to me that I would lose the ability to use 1x (144k) Internet access through my phone for my laptop with the America's Choice plan. At least that's how it appears on the VZW web site.

you can still use the 1x network to connect to the internet if you're on the americas choice calling plan. a feature would need to be added to your acct--the feature cost would depend if u chose an unlmtd feature, per megabyte or kilobyte

OK, thanks. But I think I like the National Access 150 plan I already have - the Internet access just comes out of my minutes.
Unlimited Internet is too expensive for what I need it for, and data amount (KB or MB) is hard to predict. (The web site shows mimimum add-on is 20MB at $39.99/month - too expensive because I don't need it every month.)
...
One other thing I am not clear on - let's say I did just get America's Choice without any add-on options for the 1x Internet access.
Could I still use my phone as a ~14.4/28.8 bps modem with the data cable? I suppose then I would need to dial into an ISP, right?
...
Yes, it's called quick 2 net and it uses a different network then naional access. Using quick 2 net is slower and the national access feature needs to be deleted from your acct so you don't dial up to the national access network(which is the default) and get charged airtime plus cost per minute.
If you do have a national access mb package you can keep track of usage w/ #min. Also, you can add a feature to your acct where you pay per kb used on the national access network, it costs $.015 per kb
