switching to verizon

I will be switching to Verizon next month from Sprint and I am wondering a few things about which phones would be good for my wife and I.
My wife is set on the RAZR and I am wondering if it is as bad as people say it is. She is a novice cell phone user and rarely uses the camera, she just likes the way it looks. If not the RAZR what else is a good basic camera phone at a reasonable price.
I myself am looking for a good camera MP3 phone at a good price (not the RAZR if I can help it). I was looking at the Samsung U540 and am wondering if this is a good phone or not.

Also how is Verizon it the Chicago area and suburbs. Sprint has been ok for me my a job change requires me to have Verizon. Will the service be about the same or bett...

I would stay away from the RAZR. There are a few that work really well, but the chances of getting one that doesn't are really good. If you're looking at thin phones, I would check out the Samsung u540 or the LG VX8700.

The Samsung u540 is a great phone.

I was in the Rockford/Dekalb area for a few months. I didn't have any problems with my Verizon service out there. I don't know how it compares with Sprint though.

Congrats. I also dumped Sprint for Verizon, have never regretted it.

I would, however, stay away from the U540 if you use speakerphone on your phone at all. I tried out a U540 for 3 weeks, and a lot of those phones seem to have a problem where if you're on speakerphone, the person on the other end gets horrible feedback/echo.

It's a shame, 'cuz aside from that big flaw, it was a pretty nice phone.

The RAZR isn't bad, my gf has one, but apparently they come back a lot/have more than their share of problems.

At the moment, LG seems to have the solid lineup... I'd take a look at the 8700, 8300, 8350, enV, and New Chocolate(8550).

There's also a lot of new phones in the pipe that have been/are releasing between now and the end o...

WADR,
It seems like a lot of the folks here just like to degrade Motorola. Just Like complaining about Apple or Microsoft.
Motorola devices have one particular BIG benefit of what is called sidetone. When you talk on a regular landline, you hear your voice in the receiver. if you press the hang up button, the receiver goes dead.
Motorola gets it.
You can tell if you're talking into a phone or a dead line. You can hear how bad the wind noise is, etc.
I've used many phones, I liked the size and feel of the Samsung 650. Primarily I need a phone, like the camera, use the music occasionally (selection of headsets that plug in to the phone without adaptors is poor) but I do a fair amount of texting. I use VZW mobile email, too.

I hav...

Well, Moto is hardly the only one with sidetone... I know the LG 8300 has it too, and its prolly not the only one.

That said, I'd agree he could check out the Moto W385... while its not my cup of tea (really small screen, as you say), it is getting fairly positive reviews/comments. RAZR2? Just seems too expensive for what it is.

I would have your wife try the chocolate, mine had the krzr first, switched to the chocolate and now swears by it. I personally have the en-v for the camera and keyboard. It takes pretty good pics of the kids when we're just messing around. I personally have had motorola in the past and have regretted every one.

Good Luck

I guess my husband and I are the lucky ones because we have never had a problem with any of the number of Motos we have owned and yet we have had a number of with the LG's we have owned.

I'm with crans12 here. I've always had Motos and never had a problem. People complain about the old charge ports (T730, E-815, I also had a phone before the 730 that had it), but if you're GENTLE like you should be with electronics it's not a problem.

I'm on my 4th Moto now, a Slvr and I like it. After having a couple flip phones I wasn't sure how I'd like the bar, but it's working out good for me. Texting isn't as easy as the E815, but that may be the VZW UI. Battery life is great, I get almost a week of mostly standby before needing to charge, on the standard battery. I don't think I ever had to do a warranty exchange on any of my Motos, and of the 3 I had with the "stupid, always failing charge port", I only started having troubl...

It was a known problem that if you talked on the phone while it was charging, the port would burn up and stop working.

I had an E815. I knew about the charging issues so I was really careful with it. The port still went bad on me after about 6 months.

The service is great in the Chicago area but the phone selection stinks and is very limited.
