Unsupported phones

Would this work for getting VZW to support phones purchased from other countries?

It basically tells you how to change the ESN number on your phone. If you were to change the ESN number of a non-supported phone to one that is currently existing on your account, would it work?

in a nutshell yes it would theortically work, BUT depending on where the phone is coming from (another carrier most likely) certain features won't work (any data related features like text messaging and brew apps would not work) and you would have to manually program your phone...and obviously it would have to be a CDMA phone to work with verizon's network. there might be a couple more hurdles to getting it to work with the vzw network...honestly for everything you're sacrificing its almost better just to stick with a supported device b/c tech support wouldn't be able to help you and if verizon actually found out that you did that its a violation of your contract and they probably wouldn't be very happy

Why would they be illegal? As for the data issues, couldn't you just download the service books for the device? I know with Att you can go online and update you device for Att service. You don't get full internet but you can still sms and mms.

Most phones you can just do an esn change and then manual program the phone. At least from other US CDMA carrier phones. I also have done it with a MTS canadian phone and I was able to activate it manually.
