Is there a Verizon phone out there for someone like me who uses a Palm for calendar/contacts, not to edit MS docs, etc? Would I have to get a PDA type phone for the contacts to have ability to put in addresses? I am tired of carrying two devices. Thanks for any help.

Take a look at the treo 700p or you could wait for the new 755p which hopefully will be out before the end of the year. Both will give you nice calendar functionality. I currently use a treo 650 and it is a nice all in one device.

Hope that helps.

I have seen a lot of mixed reviews of the Treo 700p. Anyone have any strong feelings about them? Also if I don't really need Internet or email push, am I REQUIRED to get a data plan? Thanks

No, you don't have to get a data plan. Although it's highly recommended, it's not required. Only difference is that the phone will cost $100 more since you won't get the advanced data discount

The only phones that you NEED a data plan on are blackberries. And that is because BB's are constantly in communication with the data server.

I use a treo 650 and pay for the 10mb data plan which is 24.99. However, I used the phone for quite sometime with no data package and I just paid per KB.

I would buy a used 650 off craigslist or maybe ebay and try it out, see if you like it, before making the complete plunge into the smartphone arena. Thats what I did, and I got my 650 in March for $150 and its still working great.

Just a heads up regarding BlackBerry and data plans.

You can have a BlackBerry without a data plan. You block data services on the unit, and the browser icon goes away, and it may say "Data Blocked."

Most stores will not sell you a BlackBerry with no data plan (I'm not even sure if they are allowed to), but it is possible.

No point in it though. BlackBerries are made for email, and their calendar isn't that great. Email, web browsing, and any other data service doesn't work. Not sure on texting.

Also, there is no PAYG data on a BlackBerry.
