I was wondering sorry for long rant. But I have had an 8703e since jun07 that phone I had a problem with getting 1xevdo VZW was great and replaced it so I am now on #2 this one now has an issue with the receiving calls. I have noticed if the green led stops flashing even though on the screen I show 1xevdo and 4 bars for signal if I call my phone it will not do anything the phone call will finally got to voicemail but then I get no notification of the voicemail either?. I have to do a battery pull to get it to flash again. So I called VZW and they offered to send me yet another 8703e and I asked them since this is my 3rd phone can't they offer me like the 8830 since my contract is up on the 16th this month. They saif sure only if i sign a new...

I have actually experienced some of that back in the day. It is common to have bad patches of devices out there and Blackberry is not immune from those issues. I would say that seems to be a good offer to you. I would say take it unless you feel that it would continue with your third device. Perhaps see if they can help work with you on getting another Blackberry or another PDA device. I would try to play the end of contract to your advantage. Say something like “I have talked to other carriers and they are saying that I would get a free blackberry (or something like that) if I go with them, can you match that?” something like that.

Thanks for the info. I hope you are right on the bad batch.
I figured that I would get this replacement and if not happy I would just sell it since it will be new shape and try gettin the pearl when it is out. Contract expires 16th so not a whole lot holding me to VZW but they are better for Coverage than others

I was kind of disappointed that they would not do a bump to the 8830 not like I need GSM capable. I never leave the country.

No problem. Unfortunately, these types of things do happen. Maybe you’re just having bad luck with that exact device and you never know. If you can do the basic things on the current Blackberry, I would keep it until your contract is up and then see your options. Threatening to leave might help. See sometimes when you get a replacement it is on occasion refurbished devices with updated software. Wherever they are getting that Blackberry device looks to be the main issue and they probably don’t care either way. Use that 16th to your advantage as I mentioned earlier. If they don’t want to work with you wait until either the Pearl comes out or you have to maybe pick another device, or maybe you have to go to another carrier. Mayb...

you had a problem and got a replacement. now after a while you are having a totally diffrent problem and when offered another replacement you feel you should be upgraded to the latest and gratest bb available on thier network?

That's expecting a little much isn't it? Remember the carrier isn't just handing you a new phone they are takin your phone and goin thru the warranty on it to get it replaced ith the phone manufactuer. They are pretty much playing middle man on your warranty so you don't have to deal with th vendor who will want you to ship them your phoen first and you'll be out of a phone for a while ect.

If they hand you a totally different phone then ot to rim rim will say "We didn't get payed fro an 8830, we were paid for ...

They should be able to send a working device to you and for slines to try to get it a third time, if he decides to go that route, is ridiculous. He pays money for both the service and the rate plan, slines should be able to get a working device. That is with everyone who pays a device and rate plan expecting it to work. I bet if you were in slines’ position, you would do the same.

Thanks for agreeing with me. Just to keep you informed I got the 3rd replacement today in the mail and guess what??

That is right Tech support could not get this phone working at all. There was no email on any bb account, pop3 etc working. No pinging nothing was working. So I was offered an 8830 but I would need to pay a little difference. Which I would do but it wasn't offered until this time around.

Way to go Verizon. Thanks for helping Finally

Thanks Nextel18 for hanging with me!!

There ya go and no problem. I wouldn’t have paid anything extra though, because I would say it is your fault that I cannot get 3 working blackberry devices.

I deal with BB's at work, we sometimes see cases where the user can no longer make or receive calls or access anything on the data side. My understanding of what happens is that the device sent a packet to the tower and never got a response. It can happen when turning the device off at the wrong time or just moving from cell to cell. I've seen it most on ATT devices, but that's mostly what I deal with (I actually support a company and deal SOME with the BB devices). The fix is to do just as you've done, pull the battery and then re-install it.

It's a known issue on the ATT side and there's really no permanent fix for it.

So data is the problem then? Since my wife has a reg phone and never misses anything. I am going to try the swapped out phone when I get it Friday to see how that goes but other wise my only option would be to switch back to a reg phone and get my email that way?

If I go that route I would get the voyager.

I thought you had to go through 3 before vzw gave you a choice of a comparable phone. I think based on your post verizon would be sending you your third phone now. So I think this phone would have to be faulty, then you could get a new one for free.

I went through this with my old LG 8000. It's frustrating, but I did get a brand new e815 when it was all said and done.

On a side note, that 8830 is pretty cool. I was in the corp store the other day and was messin around with it. I'm kinda waiting for verizon to get their act together with data prices tho. Apparently there should be a drop in price soon.

I was just looking for a fix to my problem. My phone looks like new never been dropped so it is strange. I figured I would try the 8830 if they would make the switch for me but no dice. I am waiting for the Pearl in Nov to get or I will go back to a reg phone and get the Voyager.

If your SECOND replacement is faulty, then you may qualify for a different model phone or a new BB 8703. Switching from the 8703 to the 8830 would not be an even exchange, you would have to pay the difference in cost. Also, anytime you get a new phone thru the multi exchange program, your upgrade date is extended. Your contract stays the same, but you would not be able to upgrade right away.

Just a quick question for you that may be related to your problem.. are you able to bring up your BB's browser and access websites with it and are you still having your emails come in?
