GPS question

The new Pearl may have GPS, how will that work on this phone? Is the Blackberry considered to be a smartphone? What about any of the other smartphones, will they have GPS. I have the Garmin XP Gps for my current MQ and it works only so so, but is not an adequate replacement for a stand alone GPS. I just wonder how the Verizon GPS compares, especially on what may be my next phone.
Thx,
Joey

I have serious doubts about the Pearls GPS being a full fledged GPS device. I'm thinking it maybe more along the lines of a Type-A GPS device where the GPS is only truly available for 911. They might mean that it has the Verizon GPS app built in where you may a monthly service charge for it's usage.

Thank you. I was thinking something like that. I have the Garmin mobile already, but I find the phone really small to use. PLus, didn't you have to totally stop what you were doing (driving) to access your phone/gps? I think the touch pad makes a huge difference in GPS. THe Garmin works, once I figure out how to get it to do what I want, but this could be a 15-30 min proposition. I am curious as to how Verizons GPS system functions. I can't use it for my Motorola Q or I would give it a try.
