5800 & 6800 Phones

So i keep seeing rumors on these two phones for over a year and nothing from Verizon. I am not sure what they are waiting for, the consumer line-up looks good but I want a little more utility than the vx10000 in a phone.

What I am not sure about is why can sprint keep releasing all these CDMA handsets and Verizon can't. It seems the network has been so fine tuned that normal CDMA handsets no longer work without an OS rewrite by Verizon.

Come on Verizon, consumers really want more choices when it comes to phones. Not only that but a delayed launch period only frustrates people. Release them all and let the sales people sort it all out.

Ugg I want my 6800 already...

The reason being is that Verizon tests phones. Sprint releases a handset after it has passed testing by the manufacturer. Verizon tests the phone after the manufacturer, and if it doesn't deem it as good, it gets sent back to the manufacturer for further tuning.

P.S.
Verizon doesn't give you these release dates that you hear. Verizon has technically not delayed either the 5800 or the 6800 because there has NEVER been a release date for them.

Perhaps those Sprint users who complain of the horrible 6800 Bluetooth performance are now wishing that Sprint had waited as well.

I, too, am waiting for a good PDA phone with WM6. I am going to have a long look at the Samsung i760.

Yeah, what about that everyone? The i760 will be out on Nov 2nd in the retail channel. I have been telling myself that I'm waiting for the 6800, but the availability alone has me leaning toward the Samsung.

Any thoughts on the two devices? I know this:

The screen is exactly the same size according to specs

i760 is a little less wide and lighter, but a little bit thicker

The camera in the 6800 is higher MP

Battery life seems to be better in the 6800

Samsung typically makes a damn good phone

The keypad that slides out looks smaller in pics

The 6800 is never $&@*!! coming out!!!!

I don't think there is enough of a size difference to matter.

Real differences:
0.51 ounce lighter
4mm or 0.15" longer
1mm or 0.04" narrower
0.8mm or 0.03" thinner

OK, so maybe some people will notice the whopping 4mm length difference (less than one sixth of an inch), but come on, if I handed someone two blocks of wood the same size as the phones, one at a time, do you think anyone could actually tell the difference? I doubt it.

Comparing these two phones comes down to features and looks.

I like the look of the Samsung...nice and functional. I also like the external number pad. I ordered mine already...should have it by Wednesday.

Bummer on the lack of Rev A on the Samsung...shame on them.

That would have been correct 4 years ago. However as consumers and technology evolve so does the need for more robust services. The age keeps dropping for having a cell phone. With that they demand better technology. If you're asking me about my family, those generations that just want a cell phone, yes, want a cheap one. Those who are looking for more of an all in one, e-mail access, or simple entertainment, want more.
The industry is changing, the market is saturated. If the carriers and manufacturers don't wake up, and start realizing that the age demographics can handle and want it, their screwed. Its slightly ignorant to keep the same thought process as if it were 2002, carrier and consumers.

My wife is the "give me a brick that can make calls" and loves her $19 Sprint phone. It works better than anything we had on AT&T.

My E815 has served me VERY WELL, but my needs have evolved. I need a business phone, so I just ordered the Samsung i760.

No more taking my laptop with me on vacation. Yahoo!
