Umm, hello? We've been doing this on the GSM side for years. It's called buying unlocked phones.

I have a huge concern about this article. The author is asking for more freedom and is saying that to obtain this we need more government regulation. More government control does not equal more freedom. What he is asking for is indeed a communist policy to be implemented. Why would any red-blooded American want more government regulation involved in any industry, that in and of itself is un-American and anti-capitalist.

I also find it rather ironic that he tries to let Apple off the hook for having the iPhonelocked down.. Lets be honest, Apple benefits as much if not more from having the iPhone locked than ATT does. Apple is known to constantly institute anti-competitive practices.

What is wrong with this phone or others like it:

https://www.phonescoop.com/phones/p_forum.php?p=510 »

CDMA 850 / CDMA 1900
GSM 900 / GSM 1800

Is it impossible to put GSM 850 / GSM 900 / GSM 1800 / GSM 1900 all on that same phone?

Is it something like nobody can figure out how to do the BILLING or something, like the old Nextel phones that only had regional coverage for a long time?

Or is it simply carrier control? I mean the technology is there to do that, right? Couldn't that "World Phone" work on AT&T today and Verizon tomorrow, if 'somebody' said the ESN had to be accepted by any carrier?

So did this guy do any research at all before writing this? Sure doesnt look like it...

I like how he compairs the wireless carriers to a communist government and then says the US government should step in and control the businesses..

So this guy has no idea how a free market works, has very little idea how wireless services work and thinks the government should do something about it because he doesnt want to use prepaid or a local carrier...

My guess, is like other writers whom have spouted out similar drivel, heis just mad because he need an iphone to feel better about himself and doesnt think he should have to use AT&T to have one.
