Many iPhones go unconnected

250,000 of 1.4 million sold were never hooked up to AT&T; thousands may have been altered for use on other networks

SAN JOSE, Calif.

Apple Inc. has sold more than a million iPhones, but more than a sixth of them may never get hooked up to AT&T, the gadget's exclusive U.S. cell phone service provider.

About 250,000 of the nearly 1.4 million iPhones that Apple has sold thus far have gone to customers that don't have any intention of signing up for AT&T's service, said Timothy D. Cook, Apple's chief operating officer, in a conference call with analysts and investors.

Does anybody know the latest $ amount on how much AT&T gets for each new iPhone activation and how much Apple gets from AT&T per month?

I remember that amount to be large, but not well publicized, especially after the price cut.
