Can't Use Custom Ringers After Razr V3M Software Upgrade
I just had my Verizon Wireless V3M Razr upgraded to the latest software (24.1_01.19.05) and I can no longer use custom ringers of any type. I actually have lots of beefs with this software upgrade (it's a pretty significant UI change) but the ringer customization is the biggest for sure.
The method that used to work was I'd email the ringer to my phone via the vzwpix.com address. I could then save the file to the phone and then set it as a ringer. This worked for MIDI and MP3 (but I renamed them to .QCP before emailing them to my phone) and it worked just fine. This method no longer works. I receive the media...

Can you possibly share a procedure that works? Keep in mind you need the same software version I mentioned in my original post, which is 24.1_01.19.05. It came out late September I believe. Thanks!
Installing/configuring MPT (Mobile Phone Tools) with USB cable will be your best bet with the fewest steps.
Thy these instructions:

I noticed that with the RAZR MAXX you also cannot receive and save ring tones using PIX Place or any other methods.

Unfortunately the V3M and MPT only lets you deal with the address book and not anything they consider multimedia.

You need to manually configure (select from list) the V3m as V3mm and the MMS will work.
Similarly, you need to configure as K1mm to get MMS on the Maxx.
My RAZR V3M says, cannot communicate with the phone when I try to access the Multimedia features but it lets me send text messages and copy the contact list etc.
I have hacked MPT all different ways but I've never been able to get it to work yet I can do everything with my wife's V3C using the v3M config file for her phone.

Have you been able to get it to work that way?
Yes, but read the link I provided in an earlier post today.

First... Re-enable the feature on the phone..
Second... Get MPT to see your phone as the "M" model of your phone.
With the new V3M Software, I can send pictures to another phone, receive from another phone and send and receive from a notebook computer using bluetooth. Is that not using OBEX?

That would be Object Push between phones, and OBEX using the computer.
What is the s/w version, and what is the exact keypress sequence to execute the command?
Kind of what I thought...
Software 24.1_01.19.05 Released in sept, I got it on 10-05-07.
I go into "my pictures" highlight (don't 'view) a particular picture, click on 'options', 'send' and then the options are "1 new picture message, and 2 Bluetooth. when selecting 'bluetooth' I get 1 add new device and the devices I've bonded with.
And away it goes..
So the new phones have pretty much a full Bluetooth stack for file transfer, and the older ones have been updated.
This was particularly interesting on the V3c/m since the first V3c batch had OBEX but no push from the phone. Then the next version had neither, and none of the V3m models had it until now.
So the OBEX will allow the custom ringers, but the workarounds are still needed for Motorola Phone Tools.
"For a "Stock" Verizon V3M... All you can do is work with the contacts and calendar over a USB Cable OR Bluetooth. MultiMedia Studio feature is not available and does not work."
There's no way I'm going to play with Seem Edit to try and make this work. I've heard too many horror stories.
I wish they told me the new software update hosed custom ringers.
Thanks for the info.
I did some research and it looks like it's Verizon's doing. They want to get more money for buying ringers from them and they also claim it's a copyright issue. The person I spoke to at Verizon Wireless said most of the latest software upgrades for all of the phones have custom ringer capability removed. The ones that don't yet will have it removed soon. New phones coming out will also have it removed.

This may be old news to some of you or most of you but I'm posting this in case someone doesn't know.

so if i make music that is not covered under any copyright i can't use it on the env i just bought??? that sucks.
On the phone lockdowns, I just flashed my V9m to generic Motorola firmware. What a difference! I Bluetooth transfered 24 ringtones (all at once) to my friend's Motorola Q today in less than 2 minutes. Then he sent me 5 pictures and I sent them to my Bluetooth printer. You can print anything from the phone, including your whole contact list.
It is amazing the features Verizon does not want to support.

It still doesn't work here. I'm thinking you either don't have the latest phone software or aren't sharing a crucial step. When I try to copy media files over using Motorola Phone Tools Multimedia Studio it tells me that access is denied to the ringtones folder. And yes I was able to tell it I had a v3mm manually.
To add ring tones, you MUST rename your General Midi, MP3, MMF or iMelody files to .QCP before transfering to the phone's my_ringers folder. Failure to do so will result in a "Server Doesn't Support..." type error message.
