Upgrade activation question

It was time so I upgraded all the phones on my line to 8350's. Activated my wifes and she loves it. I wanted to exchange mine for the red when it comes out. I places a call to CS and was told (at least that's what I came away understanding) that if I don't activated the other phones that I would get a bill for them. Is this true? I can use my old phone till the red 8350 comes out and then exchange a phone that has never had the box opened. I thought this would be better for VZW rather than have to sell a used phone or refurb it. Any thoughts? If this is true how much time do I have?

Thanks in advance for your advice

I would recommend returning your 8350 and having them canceling your upgrade and then just use your old phone till the red 8350 comes out and at that time redo your upgrade. You only have 15 days to have your upgrade canceled and most stores will not exchange for a different phone outside of that time period regardless of how much time is on the phone. Hope this helps!

What govzw said, or you can simply spray paint your current 8350 red and just be happy.

This is a personal opinion, but I am really sick and tired of customers turning down phones just because they don't like the color.

Well, I don't like the color of my car but I still have to live with it. If it was that much of an eyesore I would get a paint job done on it. If a phone has the features that you want, but is in a color you don't like, then guess what? There is a bountiful amount of faceplates, covers, and cases that you can use.

Color being the deal breaker is becoming the biggest cliche of my current job. 🙄

Color not that big a deal. I was just curious about being told I would get a bill for a phone I did not activate within a specific time frame.

Any carrier will charge you full price for the equipment if you don't follow through with an upgrade. The deal is they subsidize the cost of the phone to entice you into a new 2 year contract, you don't sign a new 2 year contract they jack you for the full price of the phone. They get their money one way or another.

It is just the way the industry works, return the phone and hold back on your upgrade until you are ready for a phone that you like. 😁

I'm not trying to get over on VZW and I'm glad I asked this question. If Mom-in-law wants to stick with her 3330 do I have to send the 8350 back or can I keep it as a spare? I already renewed the contact by activating the other 2 phones....right??..

If you are not activating the 8350 on her line then you must send it back or they will charge you for it because you are not going through with the upgrade. If you really want to keep it as a spare then activate the 8350 on her line wait a day or two and put the 3300 back on and keep the 8350. To get the discounted price on the phone you must follow through with the upgrade.

Yeah, you will get charged for it, since you actually "agree to the new contract" when you activate it, so if you never activate it, it wont renew your contract, and they will charge you "full retail" for it.

I would just send it back and tell them you changed your mind and you dont want to upgrade.

The only "line" in question is Mom-in-law's. She loves her 3300. If I activate and she wants her 3300 back do I get to keep the phone?

If you activate the 8350 in place of the 3300, and then do an esn change back to the 3300 you have honored your end of the upgrade. You will have an extra 8350 hanging around for whatever reason, and from there if anyone of the other phones goes down you can swap them out.

Nobody ever said that you have to turn in her 3300, but getting her into a new phone will certainly be better in the long run as the likelihood of equipment failure increases after 2-3 years.

Your choice.

Thanks a lot. The UI is tough on an 85 year old woman.

Like I said once you activate the 8350 you recieved you renewed the contract, you can do with the phone as you please after that. Set it up as a spare phone after you switch her back to the 3300, or just give the phone to her and enjoy the expressions of confusion that will come from her face. 😉

lol. that would be funny, but no matter how far uphill you push it always rolls back down. In this instance it would roll through my wife first. It would be less than pretty.

This is the lesson that Sysiphus learned the hard way, your course of action is obvious. Activate the 8350, switch her back to her 3300 and keep the spare 8350 hanging around in a box until one of the phones on your account breaks. Use your upgrade when you are ready, and good luck to you!

Sounds like a plan. I thought I would just be able to put the one in the closet w/o activating just in case. I sure am glad you set me straight. A surprise bill like that would really suck.
