So that means any CDMA handset will work, as long as it has the right freq? Like we will be able to use a Sprint handset?

It said software too. Does that mean we can load apps from other sources besides Get It Now? Or did I misinterpret that?

I believe they are using something similar to what ZUNE is doing or maybe using ZUNE. Check out http://www.zune.com

Welcome back Bigdaddy. This could be interesting. I cant wait to hear final details on this new project.

I dont really care about other phones rather than the possibility of applications. Maybe the possibility of a SDK for handsets to write 3rd party apps? This can only be a good thing.

I can't tell everybody how thrilled I am with the USCC flash on my V9m. It has everything from Bluetooth printing (including pics, contacts, text messages), Vibe then Ring, OPP (for multi pix, ANY sounds, ringtones, video, single or multiple contacts), external text message list and read, external music player w/touch controls, huge caller ID image, open browser from URL in text message, call back from text message, text fast interface (with deep color gradient and transparent background from wallpaper), Picture Messaging, Get It Now, Mobile Web (any portal), DUN, VZNav, Backup Assist, custom startup graphic, etc.

Hopefully next year we can just but a phone from them online and activate it with all of the original features.

what i think will happen or at least hope which i think would work to everyones advantage,
1 bring a vzw certified device, get a ontract vzw still making loot

2 what ever is loaded on the phone stays on there,

3 what ever you want as an extra as far as apps is up to you to get and pay for 😈 of course you know some will not.

4 the down side vzw techs will probably only service vzw branded phones.

5 lose the phone no insurance, good luck getting a new one or sign another contract with a vzw branded phone.

6 all retail prices on phones drops and all services get costly. 👀

7 your contract looks like 5 + yrs for a cheaper rate.. 😳

Why would there be a longer contract? Verizon doesn't make much on the price of the phone anyway. If you start service with your own equipment now, you have a one year contract.

because now that they are showing any device any app. other carriers would do the same. to combat churn the will lock people in longer and maybe higher etf's

Verizon opens up, will support any device, any app on its network

By Nate Anderson | Published: November 27, 2007 - 10:54AM CT

"If you can't beat 'em, join 'em," appears to be Verizon Wireless' new motto as it today announced an impressive "open access" plan for its network that will go into effect next year. Any application can run on any device from any developer and will have full access to Verizon spectrum, so long as it can properly connect to the network. Google, can you hear us now?
