I went into a store to pay my Verizon bill and dropped most of my services. I did keep the phone portion only since I do like the phone network and have been with them 5 yrs. The rep asked me why I was dropping the services and I flat out told him that I was getting irritated by the lack of new equipment and other companies seem to giving the customers what they want as far as better rates and minutes (nights starting at 7, rollover minutes, internet not using minutes, newer equipment- etc). I guess juding from the expression on the reps face he's been hearing a lot of the same thing lately.

T-Mobile needs great customer service to explain their lack of coverage and terrible data network away.
They feel that having cool phones on a weak network is better than having vanilla phones on an awesome network.
Cingular could end up 3rd if the Sprint-Nextel merger goes well because of the innovative products and services that will be available. A slow rollout of UMTS will cause more problems, especially since UMTS has underperformed its expectations.
The fact of the matter is that even with all of Verizon's customers their churn rate is below 1.5%. Besides Verizon only Nextel and US Cellular have churn r...

I guess they don't get why it is important to have the best network overall in the industry, the best customer service, etc.

Ok first off I was a Verizon customer and switched to Cingular. Verizon might be the best now but only for one reason their network has been around for a long time. Cingular switched to GSM about 3 years ago and AT&T did the same 2 years ago. Cingular has been in the eastcoast for 2 years and look how far they've gotten in such a short time. So I would say give them another year they will beat Verizon in every way and they will keep the #1 spot.
Unfortunately when compared to EV-DO and EV-DV, UMTS has underperformed horribly.

Also keep in mind that Cingular is rolling out UMTS (3G or WCDMA)...

Underperformed horribly? What are talking about? Both are capable of speeds of 2.0 mbs and I don't see many markets with EV-DO. Real speeds will be about the same. I know Cingular has 6 markets with UMTS.

I intend to keep my phone service until my contract runs out but after that will start looking for another carrier unless Verizon has started looking the competitive barracuda they once were instead of the slowly dying beached whale they've become.
Actually, the problem may be that Verizon IS still the competitive barracuda they always were, but now they are too much so.
Verizon's been adding more customers than anyone else in the industry, and your personal experience not withstanding, the customers they do have tend not to leave (Verizon has one of the lowest customer 'churn' rates around).
As a result, they are perhaps getting a bit arrogant. Which is why you're not seeing things like, oh,...

Come to Cingular...we pretty much have the same coverage as verizon now, and we're cooler than T-mobile. 🙂
Yeah right Cingular is cooler than T-Mobile. I'll have to puke over that one. :putting finger in mouth to force puke:

Dude, you have to merge with AT&T to get a so called better network, which you unarguably may have but your quality of reception on all your so called cool phones, it just doesn't compare. And I've tried everything from the v.180, v.220, v.600, a variety of SE's.....you name it and I've tried it. Quality of reception doesn't compare to T-Mobile in my area. This in a Cingular office building nonetheless. I've even tried it outside my house, outside my wife's office place and generally around the DFW metroplex.....it just doesn't do it for me man. Heck, T-Mobile's ...

Just thought I'd make the story straight here before BetterThanJake (alias, Chemical Ali from the US of A) starts spreading his false information. 😈
No, no, no. You're confusing Chemical Ali, the guy who used chemical weapons against the Iraqi population, with 'Baghdad Bob'. HE was the information minister who said all those hilariously untrue things.
Some TV show had a pretty good skit of Bob talking on and on about how Iraqi forces had crushed the US invasion, while like five feet behind him US Marines were setting up furniture and equipment. Great stuff. 😉

Thats probably one of the most intelligent things that have been said on this one.
This is a feircly competitive indusrty, and I don't see it slowing down at least anytime soon. You are always going to have your VZW people and your T-Mobile people and your Cingular people and so and and so on...just like you have your ford and chevy people...or hell even green bay vs. phily people.
I find it hard to believe that 2 people will like the exact same...
