Does Verizon not get it.....?
I went into a store to pay my Verizon bill and dropped most of my services. I did keep the phone portion only since I do like the phone network and have been with them 5 yrs. The rep asked me why I was dropping the services and I flat out told him that I was getting irritated by the lack of new equipment and other companies seem to giving the customers what they want as far as better rates and minutes (nights starting at 7, rollover minutes, internet not using minutes, newer equipment- etc). I guess juding from the expression on the reps face he's been hearing a lot of the same thing lately.
I wasn't rude or obnoxious with the rep either.

T-Mobile needs great customer service to explain their lack of coverage and terrible data network away.
They feel that having cool phones on a weak network is better than having vanilla phones on an awesome network.
Cingular could end up 3rd if the Sprint-Nextel merger goes well because of the innovative products and services that will be available. A slow rollout of UMTS will cause more problems, especially since UMTS has underperformed its expectations.

Ok first off I was a Verizon customer and switched to Cingular. Verizon might be the best now but only for one reason their network has been around for a long time. Cingular switched to GSM about 3 years ago and AT&T did the same 2 years ago. Cingular has been in the eastcoast for 2 years and look how far they've gotten in such a short time. So I would say give them another year they will beat Verizon in every way and they will keep the #1 spot.

Underperformed horribly? What are talking about? Both are capable of speeds of 2.0 mbs and I don't see many markets with EV-DO. Real speeds will be about the same. I know Cingular has 6 markets with UMTS.

Actually, the problem may be that Verizon IS still the competitive barracuda they always were, but now they are too much so.
Verizon's been adding more customers than anyone else in the industry, and your personal experience not withstanding, the customers they do have tend not to leave (Verizon has one of the lowest customer 'churn' rates around).

Sprint and Nextel only have 36 Million customers so Verizon will still stay number two. Also Verizon seems to be interested in Purchasing Sprint so that might be interesting too.

Dude, you have to merge with AT&T to get a so called better network, which you unarguably may have but your quality of reception on all your so called cool phones, it just doesn't compare. And I've tried everything from the v.180, v.220, v.600, a variety of SE's.....you name it and I've tried it. Quality of reception doesn't compare to T-Mobile in my area. This in a Cingular office building nonetheless. I've even tried it outside my house, outside my wife's office place and generally around the DFW metroplex.....it just doesn't do it for me man. This is a feircly competitive indusrty, and I don't see it slowing down at least anytime soon.
