Best Deal I Can Expect?

I plan on going to my local Verizon store tomorrow
night. I am interested in a XV6800 and a Blackberry Pearl. My wife is a NC state employee and I believe their discount is 19-20%. I have heard differing stories on whether that also applies to the phones.

What is a reasonable best deal I can expect as far as the plan and equipment discount. Can I cancel the data plans for both devices or must I keep them. We both don't anticipate a true need for them.

Thanks for your help.

The employee discount is typically only for the service, however you would most likely qualify for an equipment discount based on the line commitment that NC State has for its employees.

if you do get a better deal for getting the data plan please don't go with the intention of getting it to cancel. that hurts the sales rep you buy it from. i'd recommend going on-line. i got two of the env for 99.99 each with waived activation fees. they usually give the best deal on-line and if you aren't planning on keeping any data just order on-line.

with the blackberry keep in mind you have to have some type of data plan, either 24.99 or 29.99. with the 6800 you dont so that can be removed at any time. the account should have to be under your wifes name. as far as the best way to get the employee discount after you activate service you can apply for it thru vzw.com/getdiscounts if she has a work email address. if you do it thru the internet it will get immediately applied to the account
