Voyager/i760

I've watched the discussion on these two phones over the past few months and now that both have been out I wanted to hear your opinions.

First big thing is e-mail. I know the Voyager doesn't have POP but that is fine as my work we can't use our cell phones for e-mail as they require BB's. I would be using my gMail. How is gMail on the Voyager compared to using IMAP or POP on the i760?

Also the WIFI issue. How is the speed of the internet on the Voyager and the navigating of the web on it? I wish it had wifi but I could probably live without it if the speed was good enough.

Than the other issue is how user friendly is it for navigating the web?

Do JAVA programs and GPS work well on it? I know VZQ has their navigator but ...

The i760 is a smartphone/pda, it can't even be compared to the Voyager, which is a regular cellphone. So, the I760 will definitely have better email on it, and will have a better internet browser and one that works faster. I just have not heard that GPS is on the i760, but I doubt it. VZ Nav works great on the Voyager though.

Yeah, I actually went to the store tonight and played with them and actually started really liking the Blackberry 8830. Any thoughts on this one?

I love the BB 8830 and the pearl (keyboard took a few days to get use to but once I got used to it i love it)

On the pearl (and Im pretty sure on the 8830 aswell) you use the browser and it has a mouse curser that you move around, i really liked that.

Yeah I was very impressed with the 8830. I wish it was touch screen and had a camera but I think the scroll wheel I could get used to.

Any other opinions on the 8830?

I did look at the Pearl as well while I was there and the keys just seemed too small for my fingers. I also am not sure that I would like the sureType though I've used T9 predictive forever now.

the 8830 is good I would say go for it.

or wait for the Curve 2 to come to VZW (not sure when it will arrive tho)

Yeah that's the difficult questions. The curve does look really nice but I'm becoming more and more convinced on BB in general reading about them now.

BB is always good times. I love the pearl but if the Curve came I would probably change because I like the full Qwerty a bit more.

Yeah I wish there was a magic ball for when these phones are coming out. If its February for the Curve I could probably holdoff but don't think I could wait much longer than that.

just remember with a blackberry you have to have a data plan (30$ a month for unlimited web/personal email or 44.99 for unlimited web/corp email)

the 30$ plan along with the great web experience on the blackberrys makes it worth the price of admission for person users, but make sure you are willing to pay that before you get the phone.

as for the curve I have heard Q1 but I dont know what that means and it could be delayed if there are testing issues, you know how it goes.

Well now is that 30 or 44 on top of the 99 they show on VZW.com? I was looking at the Blackberry plans on VZW and they said 900 minutes + unlimited e-mail for $99? Is there extra on top of that?

the 99$ includes unlimited web/corp email.

I think you could just get the 59.99 900 min plan and add the 30$ Unlimited Web and Email for blackberry plan on the side for 89.99.

I'll have to look into that. I also have a corp. discount as well so that helps out. Thanks for all your help Midnight.

Have to talk to work to see if I can buy it from them and if work locks anything or not. I know we can't buy from VZW directly to get our corp. e-mail.

Im currently using the 8830 right now and its a pretty slick phone! I might not have all the capabilities of a pocket PC like the i760, but its much more stable and email is delivered lightning quick!

I almost drank the kool aid on the voyager...but the bottom is that the voyager is NOT a smartphone and you will lose a lot of functionality when you go with that phone.

I have really enjoyed using blackberries thus far and I really dont miss the touchscreen at all. The day the curve comes out, I will be waiting in line at the freakin vzw store and then I wont have to get a new phone for a long time

If you wanna see a cool blackberry....google the "blackberry Indigo" or "blackberry crimson"

I think I"m more leaning now to wait until the Curve. Still from what I read there isn't an official release date but I'm going to hope it comes out Q1. It just doesn't seem justifiable to go world phone and bigger when the Curve will probably suit me better.

I think I'm definitely convinced to go BB though.

You will love it. I always knew they were good devices but now that I carry one I'm sold. These phones are awesome.

I think the fact I always used T9 made it much easier to get used to suretype, i was used to it within two day and fast at it after a week. You can always use multitap instead of suretype it is just like Abc on a phone. Everyone is always so worried about how small the keys are but they are actually wider then the 8830, Treo and Q keys its not bad at all. I love my pearl!

I'm using a Voyager. I went from the i760. Well for starters, these are two totally different animals. I actually would've kept the i760, but the data plan was outrageous and didn't need all extra bells and whistles. I'm more of a multimedia kind of guy, not data oriented. The optimized web on the Voyager... SUCKS!!! In comparison to the i760. TV service is great. If you don't need email get the Voyager. Email... i760 definitely 😉
