Verizon phone alarm for 911, pretty crappy
I had no clue, but this is a bad idea I would say.

When I had an Audiovox 8910, the screen lit up bright red when I accidentally called 911 one time. Works just as well, but if you actually needed to call 911 secretively, it is much easier to conceal.
Yeah, that would be a lot better.
It's just nuts to me that someone would think that a loud audio notification that can't be turned off is the way to go. I guess the feature designers all live in gated communities and never have to deal with street crime. Sooner or later, someone's gonna get hurt or killed by this. đ
Let's hope VZW and the other carriers can fix it in firmware updates (and/or get the phone makers to)... that's assuming of course that they get off their ass...
(continues)
Bad guy breaks into house
Woman home alone hides in closet
Calls 911
Bad guy hears tone and knows 911 has been called
Bad guy runs off, knowing cops are on the way
But other times, it'll be more like this:
Bad guy breaks into house
Woman home alone hides in closet
Calls 911
Bad guy hears tone and goes "WTF was that?"
Bad guy follows the alarm tone, finds the woman hiding in her closet
Bad guy pistol-whips her into a coma, and/or does unspeakable things to her
đŗ
It's just a bad idea. And VZW didn't do it to 'scare off attackers', they did as a service to handicapped and/or elderly users, to notify/reassure them that they were indeed calling 911.
The effect on criminal situations apparently was not considered, or was not considered well. âšī¸

I agree, that is a terrible idea. No phone should do that, particularly since you can't disable the 911 alarm apparently.
Falls under the "What were they THINKING!?" category. đ

Actually, I did some research, and the vast amount of other phones for other carriers, including Sprint and ATT do the same thing.
Yeah, i kinda figured somehow. đ˛
