VZW is confusing!!! How does KB usage work on a Q???

I've gotten about 5 different answers from VZW. Nobody knows what they're talking about...

On my new Q I have not once used the internet including e-mail sync, web browsing, get it now...nothing. However #DATA says I've used 100 KB. How could that be?

I've got the $10 Unlimited IN TXT/PIX/FLIX so I shouldn't be getting charged for PIX of FLIX.

I don't browse the net.

Does anyone know? I know it's not much but I've only been using the Q for a few days and if it trends to be higher it could be costly.

Even though you have unlimited PIX/FLIX it still charges you for the data to send them.

Wow, really? It just seems weird that VZW would charge you KB usage on a Q and not on an enV or RAZR. Kinda backwards.

All data used on any PDA without a data plan is pay as you go at a rate of 1.5 CENTS* per kilobyte Regardless of your text package. you are billed for all data usage without the data pack. You can block the data but you will no longer be able to send picture messages.

*international data pay as you go rates are different

You and the poster above are both incorrect. As of over a year ago PIX messages no longer incur data charges on PDAs.

To answer the OP. It could possibly be listing the KB usage from picture messages even though you won't be charged for it. It could also just be from idle sessions that have stayed connected after you sent or received a picture message.

Here's the strange thing I noticed too...

Friday evening around 12:30am my KB usage said 74.20kb. Then saturday morning it said my KB usage was 0.33kb. Now it's back up to around 100. Customer service told me that couldn't have happened...but it did, lol.

Um. Yeah they do. The WM6 OS's compression rate is better but it still bills data unless you are on BGSA 978 with select pricing from what I hear.

I've been trying to spread the word about PDA/Smartphone MMS billing. I too was giving erroneous information about PIX/Flix messaging without a data plan.
