I went in to my local corporate Verizon store yesterday where I purchased my Motorola w385 the store has replaced the phone once and the battery has been changed out at least 6 times and all of this since October. Yesterday the manager said that he would give me another phone, the w385 if I wanted or he would do the samsung a540 or the K1m Krzr...(now why they would not offer a Razr V3m I do not know??)I chose the K1M because I have a very time getting any reception in my house with LG or Samsung....I have always had the best signal/reception luck with the Motorolas I have owned.....the phone seems to have fantastic reception again, however, last night and this morning when I tried to access games, my account and then all get it now type ap...

The k1m is a decent phone at best imo. I am an indirect agent for vzw and see these phones being returned quite often. The problems I see quite often are: The keypad starts wearing out and the numbers rub off, Battery performance is quite weak (charging twice a day), The main display will just turn all white (white screen) and need to be flashed/warranty replacement, Lastly the UI is very slow. The phone does get better reception then most LG's & Samsungs though so you take the good with the bad... Hope that helps some.

I have to agree with the other poster. They get good reception but that's about it. My store stopped carrying them several months ago because of issues. The same goes for the the v3m. Motos and battery issues are a given.

Rather than explain the differences between LG, Samsung, and Motorola; I will answer the actual question that was asked.

When you switched from the w385 to the krazr, the rep that processed the order probably did it through refund/exhange and clicked "esn change yes". This is a great time saver, however it does not update features. You switched from a non-EVDO phone to an EVDO phone. Processing the esn during the exchange order does not add the necessary features to accept EVDO on your phone (ex. premium network, vcast, or the nationwide equivalent depending on your calling plan).

Without these features, your phone will not have any ability to access the data network resulting in your "network unavailable" error you are receiving....

Thank you very much for your answer to my question. I understand what you are saying and I will call customer service today...I just did not know if I could call or if I needed to go into the corporate store which is about 40 miles away rounds trip. I appreciate your help and explanation!

don't corporate stores/customer service use a system where feature errors will occur if you don't add the correct feature codes to a phone? i know us indirects on eroes get a feature error and the phone won't activate until it has the proper features (aka premium network services, natl enchaned services feature codes at least on on old ac plans, its different for nationwide of course). just curious, if so that would be very interesting to use, eroes isn't useful for much

thats why agents get eRoes instead of NetAce. Only the refund/exchange screen lets you get away with not having the correct features. If the rep had used the normal esn change format the phone would not have activated without ...

If you would have waited 10 minutes and tried to get on GIN again it would probably work. It is amazing how customers think, "OMG the phone didn't work it must be broken." Not, oh there could be a network glitch or oh my phone wasn't getting a good signal.

Don't buy Motorolas and be patient, take the battery off your phone once or twice, and then try it. You'll be amazed that it will work.

we commonly refer taking the battery out and putting it back in as "Resetting" the phone to our customers...hehe

Haha to reps I am sure but not so funny for me the customer if I have to drive 40 miles round trip to have a avoidable error fixed....but I am not bitter or pissed...such is life and s*&t happens...no one is perfect and I know the store was busy when I was there and the gal was super nice. AND by the way I did try the old "reset" battery method to no avail...I am not a complete moron....only partial! 😁
