Thinking about switching to another carrier

Is anyone else having major problems with Verizon? I have a new VX7000 and learned after calling 6 times to complain about suddenly having poor signal quality in my area that the cell site in my area needs to be replaced. Before, I had full signal strength even inside of large buildings. They told me that there is no estimate they can give for the cell site to be replaced and that they "do not guarantee" that their service will work. So, I get no credit for non-functional service, but they told me that I can leave if I want without having to pay a termination fee. I would hate to leave and then find out that another carrier is worse.

I would like to find a carrier that cares more about their customers (not that there are any in my op...

I have never had any major problems with Cingular in 8 years (also Bellsouth). The plans are undoubtably cheaper than Verizon and I firmly believe the phone selection is much better, I do not believe anyone will argue that. Cingular's GSM coverage rivlas that of Verizon and you will have service unless you live in a more rural setting, just look at coverage maps. Cingular's customer service has been ok, I sometimes had to call two times and talk to two different people before achieving desired results but they have always been accomadating in the end. I also have called customer service about 8 times in those 8 years. That is my opinion. I had Verizon for about a year in 99-00 and had mulitple bad experiences.

++ but where Cingular has no service, there is roaming with Verizon. ++

I wait for the day when roaming will be obsolete, people refer to it as a plus, it's not .

How is it not a plus in situations where the alternative is no service at all?

T-Mobile has great customer service and you hardly ever have to wait when you call. Right now there are some great plans (1000 mins, free n&w for $45). Try it 😉

Here is a paragraph from the contract you signed.

Your Rights For Dropped Calls Or Interrupted Service
If you get disconnected by our network from a call in your home airtime rate area, redial. If the same number answers within 5 minutes, call us within 90 days and we'll give you a 1 minute airtime credit. If service is interrupted in your home airtime rate area for more than 24 hours in a row due to our fault, call us within 90 days and we'll give you a pro rata daily credit, up to your monthly access charge, for that period. These are your only rights for dropped calls or interrupted service

Thanks for all the input. I am going to wait and see about switching carriers. I am not fond of Cingular, so that is not an option for me. I am looking into T-Mobile, but I will see how long it takes Verizon to get the new cell site up. I read Consumer Reports, so there is a difference among carriers. They rated Verizon the highest, but T-Mobile is not too far behind. I think Verizon and Cingular are more worried about quantity right now rather than quality, so that will be a big factor in my decision...

I have a Verizon phone and a Cingular phone. I carry them both with me, and the Cingular phone drops calls and my Verizon phone has never dropped a call. In fact, when I make calls on my Cingular phone, the reception is not that great. I have to talk louder, and ask the other person to repeat themselves. I will call them back on my Verizon phone and it's as if I'm right next door.

Everyone has gripes about there provider. The CDMA coverage of Verizon is much better than GSM. Not that Cingular is a bad company, or Verizon, but the wattage difference makes the calls on Verizon clearer than Cingular.

I've had great experiences with both companies. I've also had bad experiences. Overall, both companies try very hard to satisfy their custo...
