How much should be read into signal strength??

Signal strength is where I get confused regarding cellular service. You have AT&T saying they have more bars in more places, you have Verizon saying they have the most reliable network. I read that some phones on the Verizon can hold onto calls even with little or no signal, so in the end, how much should be read into how many bars someone has for signal on their phone?? Does having four or five bars guarantee a strong signal, and thus no dropped calls?

So confusing ๐Ÿคจ

The signal bars mean very little, with att you can have five bars and not even be able to place a call! One bar with verizon can place a clear call but often the one bar is only because of software issue with the phone where the bar indicator is not accurate. I wouldn't read to much into it, if you can place calls then that's all that matters.

They have not for me! I used to have alltel and I had ten plus dropped calls a day. as for signal on verizon, my LG 8600 gets reception with 0 bars, yet my old moto slvr got nothing even with two! It just depends!

True, Alltel drops calls liek a motha ****a! I had them briefly in 05. I lost minimal calls when I had Verizon, but my wife lost many. She did updates, went to the store, the whole nine. Weird, huh?

I have VZW and I was in an elevator today and had no bars from the 35th floor down and made a call. It worked fine; the audio was great, no breakup, no dropped call. Matter of fact when I made the call the Verizon Wireless banner you can't get rid of wasn't even visible.
More bars in more places is a marketing thing. As in "we expanded our network and now you can get service where you couldn't before so you can send your kid a picture of you killing a stuffed animal in front of the Empire State Bldg".
