Was on the phone with verizon for two hours and..... (Question bout ND!)
They still could not find out when South Dakota was going to get EVDO. This is really starting to piss me off! A month after switching from alltel, what do you know alltel puts up TONS of EVDO towers in SD. In the article in the newspaper it said that a Verizon high up lady said that you can expect EVDO for Verizon very soon. That was November.
So I called Verizon and talked to like 5 people, none of which knew. I have another question.
WHen I look at the North Dakota Coverage for EVDO it is most of the state. NO one even freakin lives there, so why the hell is it all EVDO? anyone know....? Thanks!

EVDO is EVDO. There are different revisions.. REV0 was the first and now REVA, but other networks are using REVA as well. EVDO and CDMA are EVDO and CDMA. That's how network like Sprint, Verizon, Alltell, & US Cellular can all roam off of each other. CDMA and EVDO are all the same just like GSM is GSM. Sure Verizon has the best network, but it's only because they keep the network working with lots of towers and capacity.

If you work for verizon I would think part of your job would be to learn about other carriers to help distinguish why somebody should buy from you and not them.. I would say sooner rather than later. I really think Verizon's whole network nationwide will be EVDO by the end of the year. The whole state of Indiana is almost finished. It was originally supposed to be done by December 31st but is now scheduled to be finished by June 30th. Hold on, it'll happen.

Also, customer service is going to be of no help to you. They don't have access to information like this. It could happen tomorrow and they wouldn't know it. We in the stores know it usually when we see it light up on our phones, then we get an official notice a couple days later or the day it happens. The network team is very hush hush.

Wow, now i've always known Verizon employees bend the truth but i didn't know they were so well trained to lie. I live in South Dakota, work for Alltel, and I have a PPC6800 thats web browsing speed will bury any Verizon phone in this area. I have friends here with the same phone on Verizon and they don't have EVDO yet (sucks for them). As far as when they'll have it a buddy of mine who works for Verizon told me late September 2008 is their projected launch date. Probably will get delayed another few months like Alltel's did when they launched it. Lucky for them it will be REV-A (which just means a slightly faster download/upload speed). I think you're best bet to find out is to go to the local headquarters within your area. Follow one of the engineering team members. When his or her guard is down, kidnap them and force them to tell you. Or keep asking people who don't work in that department... they could be having interwork relations with a network person and have insider scoops on that.

lol you're complaining about ND? đ Wyoming has evdo throughout most of the state, we've had it since July...something to consider, we are the least populated state and the ninth largest in land area. according to my account manager wy was not ever supposed to go evdo, but apparently us sales reps sold enough vcast plans (just for the unlimited mobile web/get it now before evdo) that they decided to invest in our market đ. the rumors are that SD should be going evdo in march, but of course those are just rumors...

The numbers that store does is crazy. However, with the quantity of business they do, of course the quality leaves something to be desired. This is the same store that had a guy go nuts in and demolish the store a few years back. If i remember right he came in wearing protective glasses because he thought the reps carried mase.

A lot of the samsung phones work with VCast music and have for the last year (it is really slow though). Also some of other phones will show EVDO once in a while so I think they are in the testing phase now, hopefully it won't be much longer. We were told at the agent fair in October "by this time next year" we would have it (and the rest of the nation).
I have heard the reason that it is taking so long (we have been told it would be up in the next couple months for the last 2 1/2 years) is because the network is so overloaded from the huge volume of users in the area that they would need to update to accommodate the amount of users before EVDO could be turned on. Don't know if thats true but it sounds good to me.

My question here is... why are you calling customer care to see when towers are going to be upgraded. Management isn't going to tell care that because anything that management tells care tends to find its way to the customers. That may not sound like a bad thing at first but consider this: what if Verizon was ready to get EV-DO in SD in May (I am just making up these dates as I am going along; please do not be misled into thinking I have any word on this) but then had to re-allocate the money they were going to spend to, say, rebuild a bunch of towers that got knocked down in a storm in California? Or they discovered a problem with the switching office in the SD area with EV-DO and found out they had to make some extra fixes, costing another...
