Verizon Opening Network...

BloodiedWraith

Feb 4, 2008, 7:34 PM
As you have all heard, Verizon is committed to opening it's network to other CDMA devices. This goes into effect February 14th, barring any delays or complications.

Enjoy.

actually the date for being able to use gsm and cdma devices is the end of 2008- if there are no delays--- but for now they can only use verizon phones because of the technology they are useing.. it is actually more advanced then the other companies.(GSM)

You obviously don't know what you're talking about.

Verizon isn't opening their network to GSM handsets; only CDMA. This goes into effect on February 14th. This isn't speculation on my part, it's confirmation.

If it's approved by Verizon and Sprint allows it to be "unlocked", yes. However, not all of the features can be guaranteed to work. They really haven't told us how they're going to work the whole thing out, but when I get more information, you'll know it.

I thought about getting the Sprint Touch, but I'm just gonna get the XV6900. The white doesn't bother me at all on it.

Okay, I can tell you right now, flat out, that Verizon Wireless will not be allowing GSM phones onto it's 100% CDMA network. That would be impossible. There would be so many articles released already (of which I am subsribed to) and other forums would be talking about this. Unicel (for your information, you must not have looked this up very well) is a CDMA carrier for the most part except in Minnesota and in other areas around there. If Verizon does acquire them, those customers will be phased over to CDMA phones and that GSM network will be overlayed with CDMA towers. The GSM network there will be kept up and running for GSM roaming means for other carriers.

With this said, NO, Verizon will not be allowing anybody to get a GSM phone to ...

Dramatically reversing a long-standing policy, Verizon Wireless on Tuesday said it will no longer restrict the types of cellphones its customers can use on its network.- usa today

if you google. "verizon wireless opens network" you will see that we are opening it.. so there is ur proof. you should have just beleived me instead of making a fool of yourselves.

thanks I did just that and the first atricle here READ yourself;
Update: More from Verizon on this. Dick Lynch, Verizon's CTO says, "If someone has the technical capability of building something in their basement on a breadboard ... have at it," which should quickly open the market to small-scale device companies. Also of note, only CDMA devices will be supported (naturally) and pricing should be "competitive."

your an idiot.

GSM will never work on our current network period. If they told you that in training then the person training you is equally an idiot. They are two totally different frequencies. It is much more complicated then just allowing it, they can allow it all they want but a gsm phone will not pick up our towers.

Please keep in mind(and most of us that have been around for a long time have learned) That internal training is always about why vzw is the best, it is always focused on the positives, sometimes in a biased manner, in this industry you should keep some space in your head for something other then the propaganda they feed you. Verizon is the best, i love verizon, but i keep my mind a little more open and just blindly ...

correct me if i am wrong but from what i have read on this open network is that its not that current customers can call in to do an esn change to another carriers phone. so this excludes the 55 mil current customers. vzw will test other carriers phones and determine if it will be allowed on our network. at this point they will be on a special plan thats like network only with its own rates etc. nothing has been mentioned abt existing customers being able to change to the other plans w/o an etf

We are not going to be acting like sprint and using 2 networks which makes no sense. If you realized what the company said was that those gsm phone can be made to cdma if the manufacturer wants to but we wont warranty those phone since not sold through us. Manufacturers would not HAVE to make anything. Nokia and Sony, two of the largest cell phone makers don't consider the market worth the same effort they put into GSM.

Verizon is fortunate Vodaphone has a lot to say becasue their 45% ownership and being a GSM company will influence technological changes to blur the line.

if bill gates knew about this you wouldn't be breathing any more...

totally off topic, i got sent some propaganda email from someone last night with a link to youtube, for a video about how "dub-yah" sold off the rights to U.S. and now we have some N. American Union...no borders, the "amero" is our new dollar, etc...i don't know about you but open borders to our friendly neighbors to the north would do a lot for beer import and export! i could sign onto something like that...the less governing bodies the better! one world leader would rock. we could get away with so much, no way to keep track of all of us hoodlums!
